SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Please read in conjunction with General Conditions

 

  1. No prompting or assistance of any kind may be rendered during the performance of any item, except by the adjudicator or a person appointed by Royal South Street.
  2. Competitors and teachers must abide by copyright fair usage and must appropriately acknowledge authors.
  3. Time Limit ~ A warning bell will be rung when the time limit is reached and again 15 seconds later at which time the competitor must finish and leave the stage. The Competitor will be adjudicated to that point only.
  4. Competitors are requested to wear rehearsal blacks.
  5. In all sections a copy of the selection or reading must be presented for the adjudicator; impromptu & prepared speech, and devised sections excluded.
  6. Black rostrum blocks are available for use.
  7. For sections 614, 625, 637, 663, 680, 681 & 682 each group can enter only once in eachsection. However, individual competitors may be members of a maximum of two groups.
  8. Competitors are welcome to perform their own work (unless the section states that the work of a specific author must be performed). However, the competitor’s writing does not form part of the Adjudication.
  9. Age limit will be deemed as at the 1st January of the current year.

While this is first and foremost an improvisation with object section, the object may be used to prompt an improvisation in a storytelling genre. Competitors will have a choice of three physical objects; they choose one with which to develop their improvisation on stage. Any character from a fairy tale, fable, legend or myth, or similar, devised in a scene that differs from the original story, by the competitor. Although the character may be presented in any context (not necessarily in the context of the original story), the character must be recognisable as coming from a particular fairytale (e.g. the witch from Snow White is not the same as the witch in Hansel and Gretel). Taking Direction as an Actor: Competitors prepare a monologue of not more than one minute in length. Immediately after performing this monologue the competitor draws a prompt from a hat and must perform the monologue again, applying the direction of the prompt. The six competitors who gain the highest total points in the following sections 660, 663 & 664 will appear in a Final for The Win Television Louie Dunn Prize of $250 and present any selection from Drama or Prose not already presented by such finalist at RSSS in the current year. Costume not permitted. Competitors must have a prepared piece ready to be presented in order to qualify. Competitors must compete in all three qualifying sections to be eligible to compete in this section. Time limit 6 minutes. Prize money of $250 is generously donated by Win Television.
