VOCAL GUIDELINES

Guidelines for Vocal Entrants

IMPORTANT, PLEASE NOTE:

• Contestants are to source their own accompanist for vocal performances.  The Association will not be providing accompaniment unless pre-arranged between the individuals concerned.
•  The use of pre-recorded electronic accompaniment or backing music is only permitted if the vocals are NOT included.
• All vocal performances, unless specifically stated, should be known ‘by heart’ and performed without word sheets or palm cards.
• Singers are to perform without a microphone unless specified.

VOCAL SOLOISTS

Set Songs- See List on Set Songs & References Page.  Songs are available at your school office or via romaeisteddfod@gmail.com

Nursery Rhyme- To be sung, with or without accompaniment

Musical Theatre Solo- Can be chosen from a stage or movie musical show from any era, including Disney movies. Costumes & movements are encouraged.

Folk Song- A traditional song, usually associated with a country of origin. It has no known author/composer.

Sacred Song- A sacred song can be any hymn, spiritual or gospel song.

Pop/Rock- Performer can use a microphone and may choose to accompany themselves. You may be accompanied by a piano, guitar etc, or use electronic/backing music if the vocals are NOT included.

Country/Country Pop- Performer can use a microphone and may choose to accompany themselves. You may be accompanied by a piano, guitar etc, or use electronic/backing music if the vocals are NOT included.

Own Composition- Performer is to present a song they have written themselves. Performer can use a microphone and may choose to accompany themselves. You may be accompanied by a piano, guitar etc, or use electronic/backing music if the vocals are NOT included.

VOCAL DUOS/DUETS/TRIOS/CHORAL

Small School Choir Section- This section is for schools with fewer than 100 students. The Year Level can therefore be made up of school students of any age-group. It appears on each page, as any age can enter.

Choral- Set Song + Own Choice of a contrasting song-. Songs should have contrasting elements – e.g. One might be lyrical, smooth, and descriptive, the other is faster and more energetic! *Part Singing OPTIONAL*

Duet- Part singing required

Duo- Part singing optional
