SPECIAL CONDITIONS

 

Please read in conjunction with General Conditions

 

  1. No prompting or assistance of any kind may be rendered during the performance of any individual item, except by the adjudicator.

  2. Copyright regulations, see Rule 4.1 in General Conditions.

  3. Time Limit - A warning bell will be rung when the time limit is reached and again 15 seconds later at which time the competitor must finish and leave the stage.The competitor will be adjudicated to that point only.

  4. Competitors are requested to wear rehearsal blacks.

  5. In all sections a copy of the selection or reading must be presented for the adjudicator, VCE, impromptu & prepared speech sections excluded.

  6. Black rostrum blocks are available for use.

  7. For sections 614, 625, 637, 663, 680, 681 & 682, each group can enter only once in each section.However, individual competitors may be members of a maximum of two groups. NOTE: RULE UPDATE

  8. Age limit will be deemed as at the 1st January of the current year.

654 BALLARAT NATIONAL THEATRE PRIZE Solo     16 Years and Under

Taking Direction as an Actor: Competitors prepare a monologue of not more than one minute in length. Immediately after performing this monologue the competitor draws a prompt from a hat and must perform the monologue again, applying the direction of the prompt. Examples of prompts might be: Busting to go to the bathroom; in love with the chair; you can only shout or whisper

The six competitors who gain the highest total points in the following sections 660, 663 & 664 will appear in a Final for the Louie Dunn Prize of $250 and present any selection from Drama or Prose not already presented by such finalist at RSSS in the current year. Costume not permitted. Competitors must have a prepared piece ready to be presented in order to qualify.

The group must begin their improvisation immediately, with one competitor adopting the occupation, and the group using the location appropriately. The improvisation can last no longer than 1 Minute and must conclude with the 'death' of one member only of the group. Groups will be adjudicated on their timing, interaction, creativity and ensemble work. Up to four people per group. All competitors must be present at the commencement of this section.
