Classical

Age

  • Age is at the first day of competition 3 June 2016.
  • Duos/Trios and Groups must dance at age of eldest competitor.

Categories

  • Restricted sections are for competitors who have never won a first prize in that particular section at any age (except 6 and under), at any competition, Festival or Eisteddfod up to the closing date of the entries. The restriction applies to the title of the section and not to the competitors routine.
  • Open sections are for competitors who have won first prize in that particular section in any age group (except 6 and under), at any competition, Festival or Eisteddfod up to the closing date of the entries for this Festival.
  • National Character may include Dutch Clog, Irish, Highland and Scottish.
  • Duos/Trios - an individual dancer may dance a maximum of two times but with different partners in each section. Duos/Trios must enter at the age of the eldest competitor. Entries will not be accepted without names of each participant.
  • Solos may only dance once in a section.

Time limits

  • Solos - 3 minutes
  • Duos / Trios - 3 minutes
  • Song and dance - 3.5 minutes
  • Groups - 5 minutes
  • Production groups - 10 minutes

Competitors

  • Competitors are permitted to compete up one age group in solos and duos but may not repeat routines (except in scholarships).
  • Competitors must appear at the time scheduled. Dancing out of section to qualify for Scholarships is not permitted. Failure to attend at the time of competition will forfeit right to compete and entry fee.
  • If less than three competitors arrive for a scheduled section they will be allowed to dance, however, in restricted sections a first prize may not be awarded.
  • No repeat of items allowed. A change of costume and/or music does not constitute a change of routine. Competitors who disregard this rule will be disqualified from the section.
  • Competition is for amateurs only. Amateur is defined as being a person who does not earn the major portion of their income from the exercise of their talents.
  • Dancers compete in all sections entirely at their own risk. No responsibility will be taken for any accident, injury or lost property. This includes all people present at the Festival as well as competitors.
  • All performance content and costumes are suitable for family entertainment.
  • Attendees will show decorum, extending respect and courtesy to all performers and staff. Anyone failing to observe these standards will be disqualified and removed from all future CDF Invitation lists.
  • No rehearsing in the foyer, hallways or on the stage at anytime.
  • Dancing en pointe is not permitted for competitor’s aged 10 and under. Competitors older who choose to dance en pointe will be expected to have the ability to do so. The adjudicator may at any stage in the dance ring the bell and ask the dancer/s to change their shoes and perform at the end of the section.
  • No parents are to remain back-stage except to put on props. Parents must leave backstage once the child has finished.

Music

  • Official CD player with operator will be available and must be used by all competitors.
  • Only one dance/song per CD.
  • All CD’s must show copyright licence numbers.
  • CD’S are to be clearly labeled with Name, section number and competitor number.
  • Music is to be registered backstage before the start of each session.
  • No vocals permitted on CD’s for the singing section of Song and Dance and Production Group routines. Vocals are permitted for the dance section of Song and Dance and Production Group routines only.
  • No vocals permitted on CD’s for Classical or Demi-Character sections.
  • No background tapping allowed for any tap sections.
  • Always have a back-up CD.
  • It is the competitor’s responsibility to collect their CD after each section.

  • Classical Groups: (Ballet, Demi Character – 8, 10, 12/u. National, Modern, Lyrical, Contemporary)
  • Theatrical Groups: (Jazz, Song and Dance, Tap, Hip Hop, Production Group)
