DANCE CHAMPIONSHIP RULES AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

PLEASE CAREFULLY READ OUR EISTEDDFODS GENERAL RULES AND CONDITIONS.  These can be found in the dance program rules on Stardom and on our Societies Website.

• In addition to reading the general rules and conditions of entry, entrants should also read below for any special notices relating to their particular disciplines rules.

1. For Championships an entrants age is taken to be the age they were on the 1st of January in the competition year.

2.  Entrants must dance in their correct age group. They may only dance up an age if the committee combines an age group due to lack of entries or their is not a section for their age.

  a. Eg: an 8 year old would need to enter the 12 & Under Championship section as there is no 8 & Under or 10 & Under Championship section.

3. All entrants must qualify in their age solo sections to be eligible to compete in Championships.

   a. If they withdraw/ do not compete in the qualifying age section they will be able to dance in the championship for critique only.

Qualifying Dances: For all Championship Age Groups:-

Classical - Must compete in Classical and Demi-Character Solo Sections.

Jazz - Must compete in Modern/Expressive and Jazz/Hip Hop Solo Sections.

Tap - Must compete in Tap & Waltz Tap or Tap Impro. Solo Sections.

Contemporary - Must compete in Contemporary and Contemporary Improvisation Sections.

4. Dances may not be repeated in the championship.

5. Novice entrants are not eligible to enter Championships in the style they enter in Novice.

  a. Eg: A dancer who is Novice in Ballet is not eligible for the Ballet Championship, but can enter the Jazz championship as long as they have danced in their jazz age section.

6. Entrants in novice sections can enter and repeat their item again in their age section. This is the only time a dance may be repeated in the eisteddfod.

    a. If a novice entrant wins a first place in a section after the closing date of our eisteddfod they are still aloud to compete in the novice section.

    b.  The only first places that do not count are if the dancer was in a 5 & Under section.

 7. In any Championship section, if a minimum of Five (5) entries (in each championship section) are

not received the Committee may exercise their discretion with regard to the retention of such
section and reserves the right to place competitors into the next eligible section.

8. The Committee is able to change the awards / prizes at any stage. This includes Championship Prizes

9. In championships, first prize will not be awarded unless the score exceeds 75.

10. The Adjudicator has the power to withhold or divide prizes according to merit. If this happens, they will announce this decision when making the adjudication and then note it on the adjudication sheet.

    a. In exceptional circumstances, the Adjudicator may make a joint award. Where there are ties, the awards will be equally divided the entrants.

On the Day

  • Entrants are to report to the Backstage co-ordinator at least 30 minutes before the start of the section in which they are to perform.

  • Entrants must have their names marked off with the stage manager, and hand in the titles for their Demi-Character or National Characters before their section starts.

  • PLEASE NOTE that a number of factors (such as unexpected withdrawals on the day) may shorten the length of some sections unexpectedly – so entrants must be ready.

  • Only entrants performing are allowed backstage (except for entrants in Demi-Character who need a hand with difficult props).

Providing Copies of Music / Backing Tracks

At least 30 minutes before the start of the section, entrants must hand in a copy of the music.
