RULE STRUCTURE
Performers/Competitors
1. Age groups are determined by the date of birth. Age is as at January 1st of the
competition year.
2.Age Groups for Primary sections are as follows -
Petite 8 years and under, Junior 9-11 years, Teen 12-14 years, Senior 15 years and over.
3. All entrants must have been with their studio for the 12 months prior to entering
the TDC competition.
4. Maximum age is 18 years of age or an enrolled High school student of the current year.
5. TDC is not open to tertiary students
6. Only 15 places are available in each genre age group
Lyrical, Contemporary, Broadway Jazz, Commercial Jazz, Tap, Song & Tap
7. All competitor must dance in the order of the programme.
8. All competitors perform at their own risk. No responsibility will be accepted for injury or
lost property. This includes all persons attending competition.
9. Choreography & costuming should be kept age appropriate & suitable for family
entertainment for the protection of our child performers.
10. We remind everyone involved that the emphasis on this competition is for the
competitors to have fun and to be able to have the chance to do what they love in a warm
and friendly environment.
11. Any bad behaviour from students, parents or teachers will lead to disqualification of their
school or studio.
Adjudicators:
1. No communication during the event with any of the adjudicators is permitted, except for
TDC staff.
2. The number of places awarded in each section will be determined by the adjudicator’s
combined scores.
3. All our adjudicators are Professional Performers, Dance Adjudicators, Vocal coaches or
Performers and well as experience Educators.
Awards & Eligibility for Grand Prizes
1. To enter The Dance Championship competitions, a performer must have competed in the
intended genre in minimum of 2 competitions throughout the calendar year. TDC is about
perfecting and extending a genre performance.
2. Each Primary section has only 15 performance places open.
3. Each Primary section will award a 1st, 2nd, 3rd place in each category.
4. Finals will consist of 18 places to compete for the Championships Finals.
The highest 3 scores of each genre will automatically move into the Finals. In the event that
a performer already has a place in the TDC Finals, an offer will be extended to the next
eligible dancer based on their score in the primary section.
5. Performers/competitors must dance the highest score genre they qualified with.
If you qualify with multiple genres, you must still dance your highest winning routine.
Teachers
1. Teachers are reminded always bring teachers passes as they will not be given free entry
without this pass. Absolutely no exceptions.
2. No parents are allowed backstage. Parents are allowed to accompany their students in
the dressing rooms for child safety & to ensure the dancers behaviour is controlled & a happy
competition vibe is maintained.
Waiver/release agreement
I, acknowledge that participation in dance is potentially dangerous and there is an inherent
risk of injury involved.
In allowing my students/child to participate in The Dance Championships, I hereby assume
all the risks associated with the performing arts. I understand the importance of myself and
my students/child following the instructions of TDC staff, and I agree to release TDC and it’s
employees of any and all liability which may arise as a result of my student/child’s
participation in activities at TDC.
I give permission for TDC to film my student/child’s dance routine. The footage will be made
available for sale only to the teachers & parents of the competitors from your studio/school.
Time Limits
Lyrical - 3 minutes max
Contemporary - 3 minutes max
Commercial Jazz - 3 minutes max
Broadway Jazz - 3 minutes max
Tap - 3 minutes max
Song & Tap - 4 minutes max

General:
1. TDC audience members are able to attend the Primary solo sections with no charge.
2. TDC Finals have a ticket cost of $15 per person wishing to be an audience member.
3. Although no photography or videoing is permitted. Professional services will be available
for purchase at the venue.
4. Rules are subject to revision and amendments.
5. TDC audience guidelines may change with Covid safety restrictions
