Dance (jazz, tap, modern, ballet etc.) - Rules and Conditions

(please read the general and entry rules)

Age

1. The competitor age as of Saturday May 26, 2018 will be deemed to be the age of the competitor for the competition.
2. If required, Proof of Age must be presented upon request. Mount Isa Eisteddfod Association reserves the right to withhold any prizes until such ID has been sighted.

Registration

1. Entries must be lodged on or before the closing date via online registration at www.stardom.com.au
2. No late entries will be accepted.
3. The programme will be sent via email once completed after entries have closed.
4. Mount Isa Eisteddfod Association reserves the right to change/combine/split any section if insufficient or excess entries are received.
5. No entry will be accepted until the full entry fee has been received. This is to be completed at the time of entry.
6. No refunds will be given.
7. Only one (1) entry will be accepted from each competitor per item.

Time Limits

1. Tiny Tot Solos 2.5 minutes
2. All other Solos 3 minutes
3. Duo/Trio 3.5 minutes
4. Groups 5 minutes

Music

1. Music is to be provided via Web Upload to the Sound Technician supplied by the venue (MICC). An email will be sent to all entrants with instructions in regards to music submissions once entries are closed.
2. A back up copy of the music on CD (NOT CDRW) must be ready at the event in case required.
3. If the music is faulty during a competitor’s performance the sound technician will turn off the music and the competitor will be given the option of repeating their dance at the end of the section (with back up music), without disqualification. Mount Isa Eisteddfod Association holds no responsibility for incorrect music being submitted, so please check your music carefully before submission.
4. All music will be deleted from the database at the end of the day.

Adjudication

1. The Mount Isa Eisteddfod Association reserves the right to substitute an official adjudicator with any qualified person in the event of any unforeseen circumstances.
2. Competitors must not have been taught or have been a pupil of the Adjudicator during the 6 months prior to the competition.
3. All competitors and teachers must accept as final, any decisions made by the Adjudicator and no correspondence will be entered into.
4. The onus is on the competitor to collect any medals, trophies, reports and awards from the foyer. No reports will be held after completion of the Eisteddfod.

General Dance Rules

Groups: Competitors must not enter in more than one group unless bona fine pupils of more than one dancing school. Competitors may not appear in both the 12 years and under section and 13 years and over section, for duos or groups. Groups are to comprise of not less than four (4) and not more than thirty (30) competitors.

All competitors are to use the dressing rooms back stage. No changing is permitted in the auditorium or foyer. Competitors are to be backstage two items prior to their performance. All competitors enter at their own risk.

Backstage Rules:

1. At no time during the Eisteddfod will unauthorized persons be permitted backstage, in the wings or in the dressing rooms.
2. Persons dressing children may remain in the dressing room(s) until item in progress is completed.
3. Any teacher or parent found coaching in the wings will be removed.
4. Only one person per competitor will be permitted backstage and in the dressing rooms.

 All props must be such that they can be placed on stage by one person only, with a time limit of one minute. During item, props are to be manipulated by competitor only. This condition may be relaxed in the case of groups, subject to committee approval. Props are permitted in Tiny Tots, Novelty Dance, Demi-Character and Modern solos and duos.

Curtains may only be used for the following sections:

1. Tiny Tots
2. Demi-Character Solos
3. Novelty Dance Solos
4. Dance Duos
5. Groups
6. Championship: Demi-Character Solo

Definition of Tap Styles: Novelty Tap – use of props permitted. Straight Tap is a routine, which is not interrupted with props.

Modern Solo shall mean any style including Jazz, Disco, Funk, Hip Hop (not slow modern).

Aggregates are calculated over four categories including impromptu. This will be determined by committee upon receipt of entry.

On the day of competition:

1. Competitors must be registered and be backstage at least two sections prior to the start of their section
2. Competitors must be ready backstage at the beginning of their section. Once checked in, competitors are not to leave the backstage holding area.
3. Competitors must be ready to take their place on stage at the given time and must compete in order of which their name appears in the program.
4. If the competitor is not present when called upon, they will face disqualification.

Late competitors will be allowed to perform at the end of the section for a report only.

The use of mobile phones, iPad, video cameras, and/or cameras by members of the audience during the competition is strictly prohibited. Offenders will be removed and recorded material will be erased in the presence of a Mount Isa Eisteddfod Association official.

Protests are to be made in writing within 30 minutes of adjudication. A deposit of $25 must accompany any protests, which will be forfeited if deemed unsubstantial.

No light candles, naked flames, fresh fruit/flowers, powder, sand, water, glitter, straw, glass, aerosols or any dangerous props are to be used onstage.

The stage will NOT be available for practice before, between or after any session, nor will it be available for practise prior to the eisteddfod.
