The Royal South Street Society acknowledges the generosity of Mr Andrew Cochrane AM & family who have honoured the society with the prizes for both the Junior & Senior Chopin sections in memory of their mother, Margaret Schofield, now in their 15th year of sponsoring.

 

Since 2015 Celebrating Chopin competitors have played a Schimmel Konzert Series Grand Piano providing the ultimate experience in concert dynamic performance. Schimmel is Germany’s largest and most awarded piano manufacturer. The piano is provided by our Pianoforte sponsor, Bernies Musicland, Ringwood.

 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

(To be read in conjunction with the General Conditions)

 

  1. Previous winners are eligible, providing that they perform a completely new program from previous entry.
  2. COPYRIGHT: Please see General Rules for information.
  3. Subject to circumstances, all performers must stay to the completion of their section of the competition, and the prize ceremony. Failure to comply with these rules may result in prize money being withheld.
  4. All competitors must be present at the start of their section of the competition.
  5. Dress Code: Each performance is considered a concert; therefore, appropriate concert dress is expected.
  6. Age limit will be deemed as at the 1st January, of the current year. (2021)

Prizes; First $500 + Medal, Second $300 + Medal, Third $150 + Medal. Encouragement Award : $50 at the discretion of the adjudicator.

747 Margaret Schofield Memorial Prize for a Performance of the Music of CHOPIN Solo     16 to 32 Years

The competition is open to any pianist who has been a resident of Australia for two years prior to the competition. Competitors must present at least two significant works. The program may include an Etude, a Ballade, Sonata movement, Scherzo, the Barcarolle, or a similar large work. Each competitor will be given familiarisation with the piano prior to the start of competition, plus a warmup time. Time Limit: Minimum 15 minutes ~ Maximum 20 minutes Competitors who do not comply with the time limit may be disqualified. The entire program is to be included in the time limit, including appropriate breaks between pieces. The program choice will be taken into consideration by the adjudicators. Prize Money: o First $5000 + Medal o Second $2500 + Medal o Third $1000 + Medal o Encouragement Award $500 at the discretion of the adjudicator
