VOCAL SECTION

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Competitors should provide their own accompanists and ensure that they are available at all required times. (See General Rules 3.3).

  • Competitors may sing to a pre-recorded backing track (CD or iPod), the backing should use minimal instrumental and no backing vocals. It is up to the contestant to inform the music operator of which track is to be used, although it is preferable that only one track be recorded per disc. Quality of recordings are the responsibility of the contestant. The Mount Gambier Eisteddfod will not be accountable for the failing of any disc to play.

  • A legible copy of the complete sheet music to be performed must (for classical sections only) be provided for the Adjudicator with all bars of music numbered and clearly marked with the Section Number and Competitor’s Appearance Number to the Registration desk at least 30mins prior to the commencement of the section. Any competitors not registering by the appropriate time will considered a withdrawal - all competitors must register regardless of the need for sheet music. Copies are not returnable and will be destroyed after the performance in keeping with copyright laws.

  • Consideration to be given to the quality of work chosen. In keeping with accepted standards, it is required that items containing sordid or objectionable lyrics be avoided. Lyrics may be altered to remove any offensive or derogatory terminology. The Adjudicator may disqualify or interrupt any performer using unsuitable material. If unsure, send an advanced copy of the intended song for use to the Director of the section.

  • No entries will be accepted after closing date.

  • No alterations of entry will be accepted after closing date.

  • Entrants in Sections 262  must compete in two other vocal sections, separate from the aforementioned sections (Novice section not eligible).

  • Novice. Open to entrants who have never won 1st , 2nd or 3rd placing (excludes Do Your Own thing) in a Vocal Competition prior to May 1st in the year of competition.

  • All time limits must be adhered to. Any item over time limit will be adjudicated for crit only.

  • The Adjudicator has the right to forgo placings in any sections including trophy/award sections.

  • A conductor may not sing with the choir they are conducting.

  • The Adjudicator has the right to forgo placings in any sections including trophy/award sections.

  • Age Groups: Junior Choir – All members will be Under 10 years; Intermediate Choir – All members will be 8 - 13 years and Senior will be 12 - 19 years. Competition age is at 1 January the year of competition.
