Specific Conditions for Dance 2023
1 THE AGE ON JANUARY 1ST WILL BE DEEMED THE AGE OF THE COMPETITOR.
2 ENTRIES CLOSE 11.59pm – 14 MAY 2023
DATE OF BIRTH MUST BE INCLUDED ON THE ENTRY FORM [ONLINE]
OR THE ENTRY WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
2a Competitors must dance in their own age group ONLY for all Sections
DUO & TRIOS or TROUPES are now 8yrs & under, 9yrs to 11yrs, and 12yrs to 14yrs, 15yrs and Above
2b Music will only be accepted digitally this year. A DROPBOX link will be sent to you by email in early June to submit music for each of your section entries. Music must be submitted by 11.59pm 30 June 2023. Late music may not be accepted.
Competitors should bring a backup CD or USB stick with music in case of emergencies.
2c The Committee reserves the right to reschedule, divide or combine with other age groups when necessary or cancel altogether if a section has insufficient entries. You will have a choice to move to the next age group, a new section or Dance for a Critique Only. THIS RULE COVERS ALL SECTIONS.
2d All Sections winners in Solo, Duo/Trios & Troupes will receive a medal. Championship winners will receive a medallion.
3a Competitors who stop during a performance may continue for a CRITIQUE SHEET ONLY.
3b Time limits must be strictly adhered to. Disqualification may occur for entries over the time limits.
(Solos 3 minutes | Duo & Trio 4 mins | Troupes 5 mins | All Song and Dance 4 mins)
- No photos or video recording is allowed in the Lighthouse Theatre to maintain a Child Safe environment. Photos may be taken at designated locations in the foyer or backstage hallway. You may be asked to leave the venue if you fail to comply.
5a ALL COMPETITORS MUST BE REGISTERED AT THE REGISTRATION TABLE 1 hour prior to the commencement of the section. You may be withdrawn if you have not registered by this time.
5b Competitors competing in Improvisation and Own Choreography must register at the desk at least 1 hour before their session begins.
6 All entries must be paid online through the STARDOM system.
6b There will be a cost of $10 for late entries (per entry) and to change sections once entries have closed. Please check your entries carefully prior to submitting them.
6c No refunds are permitted, unless evidence of medical certificate or positive Covid-19 test is supplied.
7 Novice Sections are open to competitors who have never won a 1st PLACE in that particular section in any Eisteddfod or Dance Competition prior to time of entry.
8a The name of Competitor and Name of their Dance School, Teacher, Contact Number & email must go on Stardom.
8b Teachers are required to purchase tickets to view the competition.
9 Names and Birth Date of Competitors in all troupes, duos/trios events must be provided in the Stardom entry.
10 Competitors may interchange only 2 competitors per troupe
A minimum of 4 and maximum of 20 permitted in a Troupe. There must be 4 on Stage at all times.
11 NO DANCES MAY BE REPEATED IN ANY SECTION – SOLO, DUO / TRIO, OR TROUPES
12 Competitors competing in Tap, Ballet, Theatrical/Song Dance or Jazz Championship must
*Have Competed in TWO (2) Dances to qualify for the championships
*Appear in their Open age group sections before entering championships.
*The dancer must only complete one dance in the Ballet and Jazz and Tap Championship
*While the dancer must complete two dances in the Theatrical Championship
See the following for specific details in each Championship Genre.
Jazz Championship must appear in any Jazz sections or Song and Dance.
Ballet Championship must appear in Ballet – must appear in Classical and then options Demi Character, Neo Classical, Lyrical, Contemporary.
Theatrical /Song and Dance Championship must appear in Song & Tap, Song & Dance, and Tap or Jazz (This must involve a shoe change and singing a song)
Tap Championship must appear in Tap, Broadway Tap, Street Tap or Song & Tap solo
(There must a mixture of slow and fast rhythm in the Tap championship).
12a All Perpetual Trophies are to remain with the Eisteddfod.
Please take photos and return Perpetual Trophies to the Registration Table.
13 Dance with the Most Potential - must compete in 2 dances
A Ballet any style eg Classical, Neo Classical, Lyrical, Demi Character, Contemporary, or National Dance.
B Any Other Style eg Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop/Funk, Song/Dance, Arco Dance.
{NO BALLET}
14 Promising Local Talent (living within 80 km of the Lighthouse Theatre) - must compete in 2 dances
A Ballet any style eg Neo Classical, Lyrical, Demi Character, Contemporary,
Or National Dance.
B Any Other Style eg Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop/Funk, Song/Dance, Arco Dance.
{NO BALLET}
15 Improvisation sections. All dancers must register at the table or withdrawal will occur, as per RULE 5c
All dancers will dance together as in audition style. The dance will be a maximum of 2 minutes in length.
16 Own Choreography sections…Dancers must perform a self choreographed routine
with a maximum of 2 minutes it can be any genre. You must register at the table, As per RULE 5a
17. All Abilities Section: Competitors may use an aid to assist. This can be a solo/duo/troupe. All competitors will be awarded a medal.
18 Compulsory tights must be worn with every costume.
The adjudicator will only critique dancers without tights.
19a Front curtain must not be used for any solo, duo or trio performances. Curtain can be used for Troupes ONLY.
19b All troupes must be accompanied by 1 teacher or guardian only on side stage.
20a All Song & Tap, Song & Soft Shoe [Solos, Duos, Troupes] must have instrumental music only, no vocals,
In any Singing Parts can have vocals in dance section ONLY
20b All remaining sections in Solos, Duo/Trio, and Troupes can have music with Lyrics.
21a TO MINIMISE CONGESTION TROUPES MUST EXIT STAGE LEFT ON COMPLETION OF PERFORMANCE, ONE TROUPE ONLY BACKSTAGE AT ANY TIME. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THE TROUPE RULES.
21b Only the Competitor and the Teacher/Assistant are allowed backstage.
22 All Competitors dance at their own risk.
23 The Stage Manager, a Committee member or the adjudicator has the right to stop any item if a competitor has suffered an injury or is at risk of doing so, items so stopped may be performed and adjudicated normally, at an appropriate time, provided they can be done safely.
24 Eisteddfod members will not be responsible for anything lost or stolen at the Warrnambool Eisteddfod.
25 NOVICE SECTIONS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR AGGREGATE POINTS.
26 If you need to email the Dance Convener after you have entered please quote the number found in the top right hand corner of Invoice Receipt it looks like {WMB 23 ????}
27 All Adults over 18 who are not dancing (including teachers/assistants) must provide Working with Children Check card to registration desk for sighting prior to backstage access being provided.
28 Funding is available for First Nations, hardship and/or all abilities dancers through a community grant. Please contact the Dance Convenor for more information or to apply.

Points awarded 1st 6 points – 2nd 4 points – 3rd 2 points
In the event of a tie, both names will be engraved on the shield.
Please notify the Dance Convenor of any change of address.
