" Yesterday's Train Talk" by Katherine Blowen
Whoo oo oo We're off and away, racing along the rails today!
Puffety Puffety up the hill!
Chuff! chuff! chuff! and past the mill.
Through the tunnell, dark and black,
Clicketty- Clack along the track.
Over the bridge with a stream below,
Chuffety-chuffety on we go
Soon the station comes into view.
We're slowing down -
Whoo oo oooooooool
Clickety...clack! Click-e-ty.........clack!
It's good...to.....be........back!
Yes! Good........to.........be...................
BACK! SHHHHHHHHHshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) Set Poem
"Mr Froggles" by Annette Kosseris
When I was splashing in the pond,
And wearing my new goggles,
I met a very sad fellow -
His name was Mr Froggles.
He wasn't quite a tadpole,
and he wasn't quite a frog,
But he could swim a marathon,
Jumping from a log!
I asked him why he was so sad.
Big tears fell as he spoke.
"I want to be. . . (snlH). . . like daaaad!" he waived
"But I haven't learned to. . . (snlH). . . croak.!"
Well I do Speech and Drama,
(And this is not a joke),I've often played a frog,
So...I taught him how to croak!!!
Then, Guess whatl!...
I errr…
Woke.
Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) Set Poem
"Sounds" by Katherine Blowen
"Wheeeeeeee!" sings the Kettle,
" Come to meeeee,
It's time to make a cup of tea!
"Baaaaaa!" is what the Lambs
is what the lambs all say,
As they gamble and play in the fields all day.
"Cluck-cluck-cluuuucK! There's an egg!"
Says the little hen,
As she lays one more in the chicken pen.
"Mmmmmaaaaaarr," says the calf
Who is very new,
She's really saying " How do you do!"
Ribbett ... r r r r r r r r ibbett,"
Says the frog,
As he leaps around from log to log.
BUT... have you seen a snowflake fall?
They don't make a sound at all!
They fall on the ground, so soft and light,
Pure and fragile, all silvery white.
And so the trees hang icicle spears,
Like_ sharp_ crystal_ icy_ tears.
Stage 2 (Years 3 and 4) Set Poem
Happy Birthday Dear Dragon" by Jack Prelutsky
There were rumbles of strange jubilation in a dark subterranean lair,
for the dragon was having a birthday,
and his colleagues were gathering there.
"HOORAH!' groaned the trolls and the ogres
as they pelted each other with stones. " HOORAH!" shrieked a sphinx and a griffin,
and the skeletons rattled their bones.
"HOORAH!" screamed the queen of the demons
"HOORAH" boomed a giant. "REJOICE!'
" Hoorah!" piped a tiny hobgoblin in an
almost inaudible voice.
"HOORAHI" cackled rapturous witches.
"Hoorahhhhhhh!" hissed a basilisk too.
Then they howled in cacophonous chorus, " HAPPY BIRTHDAY,
DEAR DRAGON,
TO YOU!'
They whistled, they squawked, they applauded, as they gleefully brought forth the cake.
" OH, THANK YOU!'
he thundered with pleasure
in a bass that made every ear ache.
Then puffing his chest to the fullest,
and taking deliberate aim,
the dragon huffed once at the candles -
and
the candles
all burst
into flame!
STAGE 3: (Years 5 and 6) Set Poem
"FROGS" By Annette Kosseris
When 1 think of the creek
I hear a plip, plop! Accompanied by
"Grok-grok. Wake! Wake!
Ribbet-ribbet, Grok!"
Life!
But for months the bed was dry. The shrinking land,
Like a gigantic ancient hand
Was parched.
Not a frog could be found. Were they underground?
If so, they must be deep below
Or they could not live
For the soil was an oven to the touch.
A canopy of tormenting grey clouds
Had long looked down
But would not give.
Then, of a sudden, in pity they cried
One drop, then two into the dust,
Spit! Spit! On the dry ground.
They liked the sound and sent some more,
And joy! Oh joy! The 'more' became a downpour
Accompanied by a thunderstorm sublime
Making up for lost time!
Oh, the swell of it! The smell of it!
Earth shaking! Drought breaking!
Exhilarating, dramatic re-awakening!
And yes! Yes! My resurrected actors knew their cue;
They sang more joyously than ever before!
"Grok-grok, Wake! Wake!
Ribbet-ribbet, Grok!
" Grok-grok. Wake! Wake!
Ribbet-ribbet, Grok!" Then with encore after encore,
They modulated the score,
"Grok-grok, Wake! Wake!
Ribbet-ribbet, Grok!"
"Grok-grok. Wake! Wake!
Ribbet-ribbet, Grok!"
Once more ... was
Life!
