Specific Music Conditions of Entry 2019

  1. The Society does not accept any responsibility for music books or scores, CD's or tapes not collected backstage or from the office immediately after the section finishes.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   
  2. Competitors must provide music to the booking office (for the Adjudicator) well in advance of the commencement of their section/s. 
    1. Photocopied scores must be provided for the Adjudicator. Competitors must be able to produce the original music to comply with copyright rules.
    2. No competitor or teacher identification, or distinguishing marks are permitted.  However it would be helpful if each score was clearly marked with the Section number and Competitor’s number (as per Official Program) when being provided to the booking office.
    3. All bars must be clearly marked and numbered on music scores to be handed in for the adjudicator.
    4. Original music should be used for the Accompanist. If this is impracticable photocopies may be used, providing competitors are able to produce the original music to comply with copyright rules.
    5. In compliance with copyright rules photocopies will not be returned to competitors.
    6. Music scores are not required for the Adjudicator for any sections in the Contemporary Vocal discipline.                                                                                  
  3. Competitors are to limit their items to reasonable lengths and where stated adhere to time limits. 
    REPEATS SHOULD BE AVOIDED.                                                                                                                                                                                                  
  4. Competitors may choose to enter older age groups as well as their own age group, except where a section stipulates the lower age group (e.g 13-17 years)            
  5. CONTEMPORARY VOCAL and CLASSICAL VOCAL competitors entering any “Song from a Stage Musical” Section must provide the title of the song, state which Stage Musical the  song is from. The song presented MUST be from a Stage Musical – it can only be from a film if it has also been produced as a stage musical.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             
  6. MUSIC STANDS – Music stands will be available for all sections in all disciplines. 
  7. For music sections that specify AMEB/ANZCA levels, competitors may only enter the level being studied in 2019. Useful Reference: “AMEB 2019 Manual of Syllabuses”.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    
  8. DUETS & ENSEMBLES - Individual competitors may be part of more than one duet or ensemble in a section. The same duet or ensemble may only enter once in a particular section.                                                                                                                                                                                                                   
  9. LEILA WATSON MEMORIAL MUSIC CHAMPIONSHIP: The Committee reserves the right to invite one or more competitors to participate in this Championship.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        
  10. Competitors must provide a valid email address with their entry. Communication with competitors regarding confirmation of entry, and approximate timetable of events will normally be done via email.

PRIMARY LEVEL
SC50 OPEN (ESTABLISHED) CHOIRS     PRIMARY LEVEL

Time Limit: 15:00

An Open (Established) Choir being one with the majority of its members who have been performing together for 12 months or more. Each choir must present a program of three (3) songs. a) a unison song b) part song (2 or more parts - may be a partner song) c) own choice - unison or part song. At least one of the selections in this program must be by an Australian composer. All participating schools will receive either a Gold, Silver or Bronze Certificate for the school, plus commemorative ribbons for each member of the choir.

SC52 NOVICE (NEW) CHOIRS     PRIMARY LEVEL

Time Limit: 15:00

A Novice( New) Choir being one with the majority of its members who have been performing together for less than 12 months. Each choir must present a program of three (3) songs. a) a unison song b) part song (2 or more parts - may be a partner song) c) own choice - unison or part song. At least one of the selections in the program must be by an Australian composer. All participating schools will receive either a Gold, Silver or Bronze Certificate for the school, plus commemorative ribbons for each member of the choir.

JUNIOR (Up to and Including Year 4 Students)
SC54 PRIMARY LEVEL CHOIRS     JUNIOR (Up to and Including Year 4 Students)

Time Limit: 10:00

Junior Primary School Choirs are for students up to and including Year 4 students. Each choir must present a program of two (2) songs. Harmony is optional. All participating schools will receive either a Gold, Silver or Bronze Certificate for the school, plus commemorative ribbons for each member of the choir.

PRIMARY LEVEL
SC56 SHOW PERFORMANCE ENSEMBLE     PRIMARY LEVEL

Time Limit: 15:00

Each Choir must present a program of at least two (2) Contrasting styles which may be contained within a medley. a) The focus being on entertainment in conjunction with consideration being on the choral element. b) It is intended to incorporate Choral singing with other performance elements (e.g. featuring soloists or duets, movement/basic choreography.) c) Whilst Soloist or duets/trios can be a feature in this section they are not permitted to dominate or perform for more that 25% of each song. d) Choir risers will not be on stage during this section. All participating schools will receive either a Gold, Silver or Bronze Certificate for the school, plus commemorative ribbons for each member of the choir.

SECONDARY LEVEL
SC60 OPEN (ESTABLISHED) CHOIRS     SECONDARY LEVEL

SC66 GOSPEL, SACRED, SPIRITUAL, WORSHIP ENSEMBLE     SECONDARY LEVEL

Time Limit: 10:00

a) Any Two (2) songs in the genre of Gospel, Sacred, Spiritual or Worship to be presented in a style suitable for the song being performed. b) Must include at least a two-part harmony and unison All participating schools will receive either a Gold, Silver or Bronze Certificate for the school, plus commemorative ribbons for each member of the choir.
