In sections where perpetual trophies are presented annually, the trophies will be held by the winner for 11 months (August) when they must be returned to the RSSS Office, Eureka House, Lydiard St Sth, Ballarat. All holders of trophies will be held responsible for their safe return, engraving and return at their own expense.

RULES & SPECIAL CONDITITIONS

ENERGETIKS DANCE COMPETITION

IMPORTANT:  To be read in conjunction with General Conditions:

 

1) AGE:

The age of the competitor shall be taken as that on 31st December of the preceding year (2019). Birth certificate of proof of age may be requested at any time. See General Conditions 2. Solos in age levels, Groups/Troupes. ‘OPEN’ means any age level.

2) AGGREGATE WINNERSPoints for aggregates will be awarded as follows.

First ~ 6; Second ~ 4; Third ~ 2; Honourable Mention (HM) ~ 1

Solo Aggregates ~ All sections exclude Novice are Scored

School Aggregates ~ All Groups & Troupes are scored

 

3) ASSISTANCE:

Teachers or non-members of groups, who are not on stage performing, are not to give assistance in singing to groups or solo performers who are performing.

 

4) CURTAINS:

House (Front) curtain will only be used for Demi-Character Solos and Demi-Character Duos or Trios.

All Group/Troupes work

Mid curtain may only be used for Group/Troupe work

No curtain for under 6 years, Novice Section which includes Demi-Character Solos

Scrim curtain may only be used for Groups/Troupes

5) ENTRIES:

Numbers ~ where entries in a section are excessive, extra divisions or heats and finals maybe arranged the Committee’s discretion. Where numbers are inadequate, sections maybe combined or cancelled.

Changing Divisions ~ Once the current guidebook is printed, competitors are not permitted to change between divisions of a section or their order in division, except in exceptional circumstances. Requests for changes must be made via email to julie@royalsouthstreet.com.au  who will pass onto the section chair if allowed and accepted, the competitor will dance for Critique only however, the dance will still allow the competitor eligibility for a championship section.

6) LIMITED COMPETITION:

One Appearance ~ a competitor or Group/Troupe can only appear once in any one section. A Dancer cannot enter twice under different schools or re-appear in different Groups/Troupes of the same school in the one section.

NO REPEAT ~ An item by any Competitor, specifically the choreography, is not to be performed again by that competitor in any other section. (see General Conditions 1.)

DANCE COPYRIGHT ~ Competitors must be aware of copyright responsibilities. The Royal South Street Society Eisteddfod is in no way responsible for personal breach of copyright. If in doubt, APRA AMCOS may be contacted directly.

 

7) PROPERTIES and SCENERY:

All props for use must comply with safety regulations as stated on the RSSS website under “Props”. Failure to comply will result in the props being banned

These must be made to stand safely on a stage sloping at 37mm per metre length. They must not be attached to theatre curtains and must not damage the stage floor. See 16.5

Props & Scenery items should be kept to a minimum. All items should be labelled with competitor’s name or Dance School and Age group.

RSSS can provide a small table, a chair, 2 boxes (90cm x 60cm x 31cm high) and ballet barre 1.8metres long. Tiered steps are no longer available.

Scenery/backdrops may be hung from fly bars prior to the section, by arrangement with the Duty Technician. (Scene cloths should be 6.5 to 7 metres in height). Intention to fly scenery must be notified on the teacher’s “lighting cue sheet”. Choice of fly bar will be determined by order of request & operational limitations. Scenery must comply with safety standards such as anchor points and fire proofing or will not be hung.

All props, backdrops etc. must be removed from the Stage area after the time of use, and not stored backstage except with special permission from Stage Manager.

Internal combustion engines and not to be operated on stage. If present as part of a prop, it must be drained of all fuel and oil before entering the theatre.    

WEAPONS such as Guns for use as props must NOT be real or look authentic. Swords, knives etc, used as props must be blunt and made of wood or plastic.

CHEMICALS Aerosol cans must not be used on stage unless prior approval is obtained from HMT Technician or RSSS Stage Manager. Talcum powder or similar is not to be used in props, costumes or hair. Rosin is not to be used on the stage. Stage must not be sprayed with any paint, lacquer, glue or similar. Similarly, no props to be spray painted, lacquered, glued or similar up behind the black curtain at the rear of the Stage, behind cyc curtain.

Glass or ceramic items are not allowed on stage.

8) PERFORMANCES:

REHEARSALS: No practice is allowed on stage during the dance competitions, except for prior Championship Sections when the Stage Manager will call performers to the stage.

STAGE CHECK: There shall be no warming up, no practice, no marking through, and no setting of formations during a “stage check”.

REGISTRATION: Dancers should book in with the registrar before the start of the morning, afternoon or evening session. Absolute deadline is 5 minutes before the start of section! Beyond that, Competitors may not be allowed to perform unless permission is granted by the Stage Manager.

WITHDRAWALS: As a matter of courtesy, please notify the RSSS Office of withdrawals.

SIDE STAGE HELPERS: Solo/Duo dances are limited to having 2 Teachers & 2 prop helpers/assistants side stage; so, a maximum of 4. Teachers (unless you have students in the next dance), and Helpers must leave the stage area as soon as dance is finished.

WARM UP: During Solo Sessions, only three (3) Competitors in performance order and their Teacher (Maximum of 2 allowed) may mark/warm up quietly backstage behind the black curtain. Never on OP side stage (stage right). No Jumping allowed.

Competitors and Teachers (unless Teacher has the next student onstage) are then required to exit through the Back-Stage Door when their dance is completed. Otherwise Competitors and Teachers are requested to wait quietly in the green Room to be called in turn to mark/warm up, by the Stage Manager. Competitors have plenty of time with this system, to get “into the zone” of the stage area before they perform.

ENTERING THE STAGE AREA: Competitors, Teachers and /or helpers are NOT permitted to enter through the Back-Stage Door at ANY time when the RED light is flashing, signifying that the stage is live. No exceptions, for Teachers or helpers with Props!

GROUP/TROUPE STARTS:  When called on Stage prior to starting performance, Group/Troupe members must go straight to their start positions. There shall be NO marking, blocking of troupes, or rehearsal whilst waiting on the stage.

GROUP/TROUPE NUMBERS: In All Group/Troupe sections, the minimum number of dancers is 6. The maximum number of dancers on the performance area of the stage, at any one time in any one item, shall be 30.

DANCE SAFETY: Performances should be designed to be safe for everyone. Safety concerns will over-ride all Competition Rules. Performances will be stopped or disallowed if safety is deemed inadequate as determined by the Duty Technician, Adjudicator or Stage Manager. Any potentially unsafe choreographic movement e.g.: aerials, lifts etc may have an on-stage practice, by request to/of and under the supervision of the Duty Technician or Stage Manager.

DANGEROUS DANCING: Any dance requiring the use of wheels (e.g.: bicycles, tricycles, scooters, skateboards, roller-skates, mobile props), balls, ladders, throwing of items and any performance in front of the house curtain, must have a “Risk Assessment” form completed and lodged with RSSS Office on the day of  performance. Forms are available on the RSSS website.

9) RESTARTS:

A competitor who commences performing an item and stops, and is allowed to re-start the item, will     receive a Critique only, with no official marks. Exceptions as follows:

Commencing with the wrong music may be tolerated, provided the fault is quickly corrected and the dance has not begun

If serious interference, with the wrong or premature cessation of a performance is caused by a fault of RSSS management of equipment, or by an accident beyond anyone’s reasonable control, then that item may be repeated and adjudicated accordingly. See also Safety Rule 16 and General Rule Safety Rule 8. A performance-in-crisis (say injury or costume/prop malfunction) may be stopped by the Adjudicator, Teacher, Duty Technician or Stage Manager. A repeat performance will be allowed, subject to Adjudicator’s wish, safety and practical considerations. Adjudication will be made on the first performance up to the point of disaster, and on any work after that point, in the repeat performance.

Once a performance has commenced and the music is faulty or ceases to play the dancer must continue. At the discretion of the Stage Manager, in consultation with the Adjudicator, the performance my be repeated for Critique Only.

10) DANCE GENRES DESCRIPTIONS:

CLASSICAL BALLET:

Shall be based on classical ballet techniques. In solos, short ballet tutus, romantic length tutus, or short skirts (Balanchine Style) to be worn by girls. Properties and handheld accessories ARE NOT to be used.

DEMI-CHARACTER:

A clear portrayal of a character or story by demonstrating acting and miming ability and expressive dancing using classical technique. Properties and handheld accessories ARE permittedMODERN DANCE:

Shall include Modern, Neo-Classical (which means ‘new’ Classical), and/or Spiritual/Liturgical. Not Jazz, Disco, Musical Theatre/Comedy, Funk or Hip Hop. NOTE: From 10 years to Under 12 up, Contemporary styles are separated to an individual section.

LYRICAL

Danced to music with lyrics. Competitor should tell the story of the lyrics with emotion, feeling through the body (artistry), as well as showing a clear understanding of the progressing dance technique according to age level.

CONTEMPORARY DANCE:

Shall include all styles of Contemporary technique or syllabi, demonstrating the melting pod of unconventional movement gathered from all dance styles – embracing freedom of space, trying to explore the absolute the absolute limits of the human from and visual expression of raw feelings/emotions. Ideally, should show the development of new forms and dynamics, such as quick oppositional moves, contractions, body rolls, shifting alignments, systematic breathing, standing or non-standing positions. Eg: using the floor as a suspended space. Can be executed with or without music.

SONG AND DANCE:

Any dance style can be used, but No Tapping allowed.

SONG AND TAP:

Shall be Tapping Only.

SONG AND TAP/SONG AND DANCE:

All vocal work must be performed live by members of the item. If recorded music is used, it must NOT contain any vocalization. EG: singing, speaking, shouts, harmony backing etc). No assistance with singing.

TAP:

No recorded Tapping in background music is allowed.

 

JAZZ:

Shall include Jazz, Disco, Cabaret, Musical Comedy (Musical Theatre) and Up-Tempo Modern styles. Teachers are encouraged in 10 to Under 12 years and 12 to Under 14 years to refrain from using inappropriate costuming for these underage groups eg: Showgirl; type of costume). Teachers are also encouraged to use age appropriate music with age appropriate lyrics.

GROUPS / TROUPES:

Minimum number of 6 (SIX) and Maximum number of 30 performers.

NOVICE:

A Competitor who at the time of entry, has NEVER previously won 1st, 2nd or 3rd place at any Competition/Eisteddfod, anywhere (at the time of entry).A novice dancer does not have to enter a Novice Section and is permitted to enter any Normal Non-Novice Section. A Novice dancer may choose to enter one or two dances in the Novice Sections. An entrant into a Novice Section, can only choose ONE style of dance from the “Classical Novice Section” (EG: Classical, Demi-Character or Modern) AND/OR Choose One style of dance from the Theatrical Novice Section. (EG: Jazz, Tap, Song & Tap or Song & Dance) Entering two dances from the one Novice Section (EG: Classical and Modern in Classical Novice Section or Tap and Jazz in Theatrical Novice Section) would not be allowed. Competitors entered in a Championship Section cannot enter a Novice Section.

A novice dance cannot be repeated in any other normal non-Novice Section.

 

11) SPECIAL EFFECTS:

1. Special lighting, scrim curtain, or other effects only to be used for Groups/Troupes

2. Special lightning by Duty Technician must have prior arrangement by way of Lighting Forms. Plotting sessions will be available the night before the Troupes/Groups commence. Please note that lighting sheets must be typed, if no lighting form is not submitted only standard lighting (as per solos) will be provided.

3. Protected lights may be attached to Competitors’ scenery and backdrops, but not to theatre curtains.

4. Naked flames, fuel lamps lighted cigarettes, fireworks or apparatus capable of causing fire or smoke are NOT permitted.

5.Smoke Machine can be hired from RSSS. Cost is $20 per item.

               6: Bubble or Snow machines are Not Allowed.

               7: Helium filled balloons are not permitted anywhere in HMT (Her Majesty’s Theatre)

12) DATA LIGHT PROJECTOR (DLP)

               Is available for use in Group/Troup Sections. There is a hiring fee of $25 per DLP per item. The RSSS Laptop computer must be used. Images to be provide on a dedicated CD, DVD, USB Memory Stick, and be programmed to as Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation.  Please only one item on each CD/DVD, however multiples can be placed on USB. Audio may also be submitted on the same devise as the PowerPoint presentation, these must be checked by Duty Technician during a pre-booked plotting session. In addition, a separate copy of the music must be provided as a backup, which is always wise to have a backup. Teachers must provide their own operator for the DLP.

13) STAGE:

1. Area:

The performing area of the stage is approximately 8.5m wide by 9.25 m deep (for Solos) or 10.80m deep for Groups/Troupes. Stage slopes (Raked Stage) towards the audience at 37mm per metre length. Height to below borders (top curtains) is 5 metres, to middle positions for fly bar is 6 metres.

2: ORCHESTRA PIT:

The area from the front curtain to the edge of the stage is 800mm. An orchestra pit lies across the front of the stage and it has a drop of 900mm to a solid surface. There shall be NO jumping into the orchestra pit as part of any performance. The pit is covered by an extended stage. This extension is not suitable for performance.

               3: Tarquett:

               RSSS owns an Ivy League 4mm Tarkett/Vinyl floor to fit the entire stage of Her Majesty’s Theatre. The Tarkett is manufactured to ‘cushion’ and protect feet, ankles, knee and hip joints and prevent           injuries. It is also the preferred surface for pointe work. It is suitable for all the Classical, Modern,      younger students. However, it is not suitable for large tap troupes. If we receive enough Tap and               Theatrical style Troupe entries, these will be performed before the Tarkett is laid.

              

14) MUSIC:

1: A volunteer CD player operator will be provided for you. CD’S must be named and handed in at the time of Registration or to the volunteer by the Competitor/Teacher before the performance.

2: Do NOT put stick-on labels on the actual disc. There should be only 1 track per CD. Multiple CDS cannot be pb played for one performance item. Back-up music may be on CD or USB, but NOT digital music devices EG: iPod, iPad, Laptop or Smart Phone.

3: There will be a duplicate TASCAM CD player with headphones, identical to the one used side-stage, operational at all time in the Green Room for Competitors/Teachers to check music.

4: Music recordings must be made with a good quality programme on good quality CD’S preferably using wav, mp2 or mp3 file formats. Make sure your recording is ‘Finalised”. Please note that iPods, iPad, Laptops or smart phones CANNOT be used.

5: VOLUME: The Stage Manager, Music Operator or the HMT Duty Technician shall have the right to limit the volume level of the music to safe level. See General Rule 3.6

15) TIME LIMITS

1. Performance time is taken from the start of correct music or movement of the Competitor until the Competitor stops dancing, leaves the stage or the curtain falls. Timing does not include the reverence or tag.

               2. Novice Solos ~ 2 - 3 minutes maximum

3. Tap Solo, Duo’s or Trios ~ 2.5 minutes maximum

4. All other dance styles ~ Solo’s, Duo’s or Trio’s – 3 minutes

5. Song & Dance or Song & Tap ~ Solo, Duo or Trio – 4 minutes maximum

6. Special Tap Solo ~ Championships (sections 390, 391, 394, 39) – 4 minutes maximum

7. Groups and Troupes all styles ~ 5 minutes maximum

8. Preparation Time: Time allowed to prepare the Stage is limited to 1 minute for all solos, Duos or trios. Groups / Troupes have a maximum of STRICTLY 5 minutes set up time. Have Prop helpers ready to set up, dismantle and exit stage area quickly. Maximum of 4 Teachers (including assistants).

 

16) SAFETY

1. NO children unless in current performance item. NO babes in arms, pushers, prams allowed backstage at any time.

2. ELECTRICALS ~ All leads, appliances, lights and stage prop lighting for use on 240 volts within the Theatre, must a current Safety Compliance Tag. This includes and 240-volt circuit supplied by a battery inverter, and any electrical item used in the dressing rooms. EG: hair straighteners, curling wands, Hair dryers, portable CD players).

In service safety inspections and testing to Australian Standard 3760, can be performed by your local A or B Grade Electrician. See General Rule 5.7

Any batteries used in a performance, must be sealed and unspillable.

3. PROPS: Props must be designed for use on a sloping stage (37mm per metre), and to enable the use of sandbags for hold-down. Glass electrical globes and electrical wiring must be recessed or caged or protected to prevent damage or being touched. Ladders must be industrial and a Competitor (Soloist or a Group/Troupe member) can only climb the first two steps. In troupes, higher climbs require support, Risk Assessment Forms and approval.

5. THEATRE REQUIREMENTS: All Teachers/Competitors whether Solos, Groups/Troupes performing must read ‘HMT Theatre Rules’ and the “risk Assessment Checklist” on the RSSS website Competition Page and act where relevant: http://royalsouthstreet.com.au/competition/dance/.

6. DRESSING ROOMS: Competitors must change in their designated Dressing Room. No public area is to be used for changing. Dressing Rooms are to be left neat and tidy. Rubbish is to be placed in bins provided.

7. VANDALISM: There is to be NO graffiti, wanton damage, defacing of furniture or fixtures any act of vandalism made to Dressing Rooms, Auditorium or any part of the Theatre. Dance Teachers are requested to address this issue with their students prior to the competition.  The consequence of any act of vandalism may result in offending Competitor(s) and /or the Dance School involved, being disqualified from the Competition, with costs of repair or damage applied.

               * Royal South Street donate the proceeds raised from the Masterclasses to 4EK in honour of Emma-Kate McGrath who lost her life at 19 years to the Meningococcal Septicaemia Strain W. The 4EK foundation is exploring ways to help children and families affected by the deadly bacterial infection, particularly promoting the awareness of the need for immunisations.

* Where Divisions of a section are involved, the winner with the highest overall points of the section will be invited to the “Dance for Life”

* Energetiks will supply a Judge who will make decisions independently to the two RSSS Appointed Adjudicators in 2020.

* The Energetiks Judge will announce the winners in an audible manner.

Australian Ballet School Award:

One week’s tuition at the

Australian Ballet School’s Summer School

 

               * The Australian Ballet School’s annual Summer School offers five consecutive days of comprehensive training in Classical Ballet and other dance styles, in a variety of programmes for national and international students at the Primrose Potter Australian Ballet Centre in Melbourne. Classes are conducted by staff of the School and guest teachers from the Australian Ballet and the dance community. The four different programmes have been developed to cater for the needs of Students 8 – 18 years.

               The Australian ballet school send a designated representative to attend on our final Saturday day, being the Under 14 years courier Classical Ballet Championship Sole. That designated representative chooses a student separately to the tow Adjudicators, who will receive the above one-week tuition in 2021. The designated representative brings the Australian Ballet School Award in an Australian Ballet School package.

               The announcement of the winner and presentation of the package is done on stage, at the conclusion of the Championship and after the two Adjudicators have announced their winners. The designated representative is invited to say a few words on behalf of the Australian Ballet and some general comments on the section.

               RSSS thanks Australian Ballet for their continued support of the competition.

              





General Conditions 2020

 

General Conditions apply to all sections in the competitions unless stated otherwise.

Special Conditions for specific sections appear under the appropriate section in the Competition Schedule. To the extent of any inconsistency Special Conditions will take precedence over General Conditions.

 

‘The Board’ refers to The Royal South Street Society board of Directors.

 

1. THE COMPETITION

 

1.1 A competitor performs an item in a section within a discipline

(E.g. Classical Vocal). A section may be split into divisions if a high volume of entries are received.

 

1.2 COMPETITOR - A competitor may be one person, or any group of two or more people.  Each group competing in a section must comprise completely different competitors, unless stated otherwise in the Special Conditions.

 

1.3 ONE ENTRY - Only one entry is allowed from each competitor in each section, unless stated otherwise in the Special Conditions.

 

1.4 REPEAT OF ITEMS - An item by a competitor can only be performed once during the current competition, within the same discipline, except where special conditions permit otherwise.

 

1.5 Competitors who have been taught by the adjudicator of their section within the last 12 months are ineligible to enter.

 

2. ENTRIES

 

2.1 AGE LIMIT –

Herald Sun Aria – Competitors must be at least 17 and not over 35 years on 31 December of the current year.

Calisthenic Sections – The competitors age on 31 December of the current year.  

Dance Sections – The competitors age on 31st December of the preceding year

All Other Sections - The competitor's age on 1 January of the current year, shall be deemed the age required in the sections specifying age limits.

 

2.2 ENTRY DATE – Entries must be submitted via our ONLINE competition database

on or before Friday 24th April. Calisthenics entries to be lodged before Friday 3rd April. Herald Sun Aria entries to be lodged before Friday 26th June.  All entries must comply with the general competition rules at the time of entry. A confirmation will be generated for the competitor and it is the competitor’s responsibility to confirm all details of the entry are correct. There are no refunds for cancellations after the closing date. Should alterations be required, a request via email to info@royalsouthstreet.com.au must be forwarded to the Society. Responsibility for correct entry rests with the entrant. The eisteddfod cannot be responsible for entries lost through failed electronic transmission or incorrectly submitted online via our stardom entry system. Check your junk mail if you don’t receive a confirmation email.

 

2.3 LATE ENTRIES will NOT be accepted past the due date for the 2020  competitions.  Due to Royal South Street Society using an ONLINE competition entry system, we are unable to process or receive entries after the due date. Exceptional circumstances via email to info@royalsouthstreet.com.au  may be considered however will be subject to additional late fees. Late entries are only accepted subject to our final timetabling capacity and program deadlines without obligation. We reserve the right to not print late entries in the guide book, however all entries will be announced by the MC on the day.

 

2.4 ENTRY FEES - No entry will be accepted unless processed online with full payment.  Entry fees are shown with discipline section items in the Competition Schedule. Fees for Calisthenics sections appear at the start of the section. Education schools may request an invoice by submitting a purchase order to admin@royalsouthstreet.com.au which must be paid within 21 days of receiving the invoice. Fees are payable to the Royal South Street Society.  Fees are non-refundable once entries close, unless for an extenuating circumstance or if the section is cancelled by South Street.

 

2.5 COMPETITORS NAMES - All competitors must submit with their ONLINE entry correct names, dates of birth and addresses. No competitor will be allowed to compete under any name other than as stated in their entry. A person is only permitted to enter ONCE in the SAME event, except where otherwise allowed.

 

2.6 NAMES OF PERSONS IN DUOS/TRIOS - In all items where two or three persons are competing, the name of each person must be given at the time of entry in order for the entry to be accepted and processed correctly online.

 

2.7 NON-ACCEPTANCE - The board reserves the right to refuse any entry.

 

2.8 MINIMUM/MAXIMUM - The board or section representative may at its discretion cancel, combine or divide any section/s that have 3 or less entries at the time of entries closing. Refunds will be given when a section is cancelled.

 

2.9    NAMES OF COMPETITORS IN GROUPS - In all group items, a list of the names of all people appearing in each item must be held by the school representative.  A separate list for each item must be supplied to comply with Occupational Health and Safety requirements.

 

2.10 COMPETITION ENTRY DISCLAIMERS

a) COPYRIGHT – I/we declare that all necessary licences for copyright have been  
obtained and only originals or licensed copies will be used in accordance with
  copyright laws and agreements.

 

I/we certify that if I/we will be performing in the Royal South Street competitions from a printed copy, it will be either an original published edition; a photocopy, transcription or arrangement that is accompanied by written authorisation from the copyright owner authorising that photocopy, transcription or arrangement; or an original published edition where both the work and edition are out of copyright (in the public domain).

 

I/we recognise failure to comply with copyright conditions and procedures outlined on our website as well as information supplied to competitors prior to the commencement of our competition - will result in the competitor being unable to compete.

 

 

b) RISK – I/we recognise that the Royal South Street Society is insured for public liability which does not comprehensively cover injury to performers, and that individuals or schools must ensure that they are adequately covered whilst performing in these competitions or otherwise enter at their own risk.

 

c) PHOTOGRAPHY & RECORDING – I/we acknowledge the Royal South Street Eisteddfod reserves the right to record, film, broadcast, telecast, live stream, videotape or photograph any entrant, item or event in the eisteddfod without notification.  Any such photograph, recording or broadcast may be used at the eisteddfod’s discretion for publicity or promotional purposes, including competition results, photos via electronic and printed media at our discretion but shall not necessarily constitute an endorsement of any participants, and no remuneration or compensation whatsoever shall be attributable to any participants so featured.

 

I/we agree to Royal South Street appointing official photographers and videographers to record/photograph/ live stream any/all of my/group performance during the competition these photographs and videos can be retained, broadcast, telecast by Royal South Street for marketing, publicity and archival purposes, by submitting your entry you have automatically granted permission for this. Copies of photographs and videos will be made available to competitors/groups to purchase through the officially appointed photographers. All photos will be accessible via the official photographer’s online shop using individual discipline access codes. If for any reason you do not wish to have your individual/group performance photographed or recorded it is your responsibility to submit an official request in writing (annually) to the Royal South Street office advising your objection by no later than 14 days prior to the performance date. Individuals/ teams may only be exempt from live streaming in the case of exceptional circumstances such as legal issues it is your responsibility to submit an official request in writing (annually) to the Royal South Street office advising your objection by no later than 14 days prior to the performance date. This email must be sent to info@royalsouthstreet.com.au and include the date, section number and performance number of the item.

 

d) PERSONAL DETAILS (eg. Name, locality, and age category of sections) are published in the “Guidebook” and competitors should be aware that such details may be used by media outlets. Any further information concerning a competitor will not be provided to anyone without the competitor’s express permission.

 

e) CONDITIONS – Competitors/guardians acknowledge that I/we have read and agree to abide by the “General Conditions of Competition”, and where relevant “Theatre Rules” and “Special Conditions of Competition”. Competitors/guardians acknowledge that failure to comply with any of the foregoing rules and conditions may result in disqualification, the withholding of prizes, and a future bar in competition. The decision of the Board or relevant discipline committees in all questions or disputes arising out of or not provided for, by these rules and regulations will be final. All entries are received according to this condition and in the spirit of friendly competition upon which the eisteddfod is based; accordingly no dispute shall become the subject of any appeal at law.

 

f) MEDICATION – Competitors/guardians acknowledge that it is the responsibility of individual competitors who require medication to ensure that they carry it with them at all times and have it side stage in the event they should require it. It is the individual competitor’s responsibility to have a responsible person present to administer the medication in case of an emergency. 

 

3 ADJUDICATORS

 

3.1 ASSISTANTS - The board reserves the right to appoint a co-adjudicator, or assistant, or substitute adjudicator when necessary.

 

3.2 COMPLIANCE - The adjudicator's decision as to whether or not an item presented or proposed by a competitor complies with the conditions of a particular section shall be final.

 

3.3 COMMUNICATION - Any unwarranted communication with the adjudicators, either by competitors, teachers, parents or other interested parties during the competitions is prohibited. Prohibited contact includes verbal, email, SMS or social mediums such as Facebook, Twitter, Internet, and Blogs or through any third party. Discipline Chairs or their delegates from their sub-committee may approach the Adjudicators when and if required to do.

 

3.4 CRITIQUE - A detailed critique by the adjudicator will be provided for competitors in each section.  It may be obtained at the RSSS office at the end of each section, except Calisthenics where critiques will be available at the end of the division and will only be given to coaches.

 

3.5 PRIZE - The adjudicator has the right to withhold any prize.  In the event of a tie for first in any section the first and second prize shall be divided equally between the tied competitors and no second will be awarded.  The competitor with the next highest points will be awarded third.  In the event of a tie for second prize, the second and third prize shall be equally divided between the tied competitors and no third will be awarded.  When awarding an Honourable Mention or Highly Commended these achievements are to be considered fourth and fifth place respectively.

 

3.6 SOUND LEVEL - The adjudicator has the right to control the level of any amplified sound in the auditorium.

 

4 COMPETITORS' OBLIGATIONS

 

4.1 COPYRIGHT: For all information relating to copyright of all printed, photocopied,

recorded, adapted or reproduced material, please refer to the relevant competition page on the Royal South Street website http://royalsouthstreet.com.au/competition/.

Failure to comply with copyright conditions and procedures will result in the competitor being unable to compete. Refer General Rule 2.10, A.

 

4.2 INSURANCE - The board requires all competitors to be responsible for

insuring themselves or group/troupe members etc., against personal injury arising out of participation in the competitions. Refer General Rule 2.10, B.

 

4.3 ORDER OF COMPETING - Competitors must compete in the order in which their names appear in the program unless officially authorised or directed otherwise.  If not present when called upon, competitors are liable for disqualification.

 

4.4 PROOF OF AGE - In any section where an age limit is specified, the board reserves the right to ask any competitor, at any time, to provide a proof of age.  Any prize money may be withheld until such proof has been provided.

 

4.5 PERSONAL PRESENTATION - The board expects behaviour of competitors and audience to be appropriate to the occasion, Inappropriate language and movements are not appreciated except for Speech & Drama where applicable. Offenders may be removed from the theatre.   All competitors are requested to dress neatly and present well on stage. Performances should be appropriate to the competitors’ age and to conservative community values. Inappropriate language and movements are not appreciated.

 

4.6 REHEARSAL - No rehearsal or practice is permitted on the stage to be used for the competitions during the currency of the discipline for which the competitor is entered.  Any competitor not observing this condition may be disqualified. Dancing championship sections and Calisthenics Free Exercises are exempt.

 

4.7 WITHDRAWALS – Competitors who do not intend to compete in a section for which they have entered should as a courtesy notify the office to that effect 24 hours before the time appointed for that particular section.

 

4.8 REGISTRATION – Entrants (or a representative) must register with the session manager backstage (or as directed) at least 30 minutes before the start of the session or estimated time as advertised.* Session is Morning, Afternoon & Evening. * Section is the competitor number and type eg: 944 Under 13 years Jazz Troupe. Please refer to special conditions for discipline specific information

 

  1.      GENERAL ADVICE

 

5.1 COMMUNICATION The Royal South Street Society’s preferred form of communication

is via email. Any correspondence with the society should be in email format, it is the responsibility of the entrant to assure that they are receiving any emails sent by Royal South Street Society representatives.

 

5.2 CAMERAS, VIDEOS RECORDERS, AND MOBILE DEVICES. - The use of these by members of the audience during the competitions is strictly prohibited during items or when stage lights are down. Mobile Devices must be turned to silent while in the auditorium. Offenders may be removed from the auditorium and recording destroyed. Performances are copyright. Performances may be photographed and recorded by official photographers/ videographers Teachers, coaches, competitors, parents or representatives are strictly prohibited from filming recording or taking photography of any performance. Privacy and legal consent must be respected at all times. Lights of any form including light up pens and mobile phone torches must not be used during a performance.

 

 

5.3 PROTESTS - To be made in writing, within one hour of the disputed competition, and to be accompanied by a $25 deposit, this will be forfeited if the protest is deemed frivolous.  Calisthenics excluded see ACF rules 1.6.

 

5.4 STAGE – The stage plan for Her Majesty’s Theatre is located on the RSSS

website on the competition page.

 

5.5 STAGE EFFECTS - No helium balloons, lighted candles, sparklers, lighted

cigarettes, exploding device (eg party poppers), or any naked flames are permitted.  Approved smoke or fog effects are permitted in appropriate sections. Bubble or snow generators or aerosol sprays are not permitted.  The society provides stage lighting and audio amplification.

 

5.6 STAGE PROPERTIES – All props must comply with safety regulations as stated on

the RSSS website.” Failure to comply will result in the props being banned. Note also no glass or ceramic items allowed on stage.

No staples to be used repairing or assembling props on stage.  If hay bales are used, they must be covered in plastic sheeting. Live animals, water, unprotected mechanical or electrical devices, or any dangerous items are not to be used.

 

5.7 ELECTRICALS – All leads, appliances, lights and stage property lighting using 240

volts within the theatre, must have a current safety compliance tag.  (In service safety inspections and testing to Australian Standard 3760, can be performed by your local A or B Grade electrician).  No single insulated cable is permitted to be connected to any Theatre power source.  This applies to all voltages including extra low voltage (under 32 volts).

 

5.8 Volunteer event staff (other than discipline representatives) are not permitted to

advise, interpret or vary any rules, conditions, or any aspect of the conduct of the competition. The eisteddfod will not accept responsibility for any effect arising from such unauthorised comment.

 

5.9 SIDE STAGE – Side stage is off limits to any unessential personal, this includes

parents, family members and friends. Only performers, teachers/ coaches and those required to complete a task at the time will be allowed side stage.

 

6 PRIZES

 

6.1 PRIZE MONEY/MEDALS - Prize money and medals for solo, duo or trio items may be obtained at the RSSS office immediately after the awards are announced or in some cases may be presented on stage.  Certificates may be purchased at the office.  

 

6.2 TIES - In the event of a tie for first prize in any section the first and second prize money shall be divided equally between the tied competitors.  The competitor with the next highest points will be awarded third prize and no second will be awarded.  In the event of a tie for second prize, the second and third prize money shall be equally divided between the tied competitors and no third will be awarded.

 

6.3 AGGREGATE PRIZES - Aggregates are determined by adding points assigned to first, second and third places won in the various sections specified.  Points are assigned thus - First, 5 points; Second, 3 points; Third, 1 point. Calisthenic and dancing sections use a different scoring method. Full aggregate points to be allocated in the event of a tie.  E.g.  Equal first 5 points each.  Calisthenic and dancing sections use a different scoring method. Calisthenics is exempt.

 

6.4 AGGREGATE TIE - Where a tie for an aggregate occurs, reassessment is made thus - greatest number of firsts to decide winner.  If first are equal, then greatest number of seconds decides the winner.  If a tie still exists, any prize money will be divided as in prize ties 6.2.  Calisthenics section is exempt.

 

6.5 PERPETUAL TROPHIES - Will be held by the winner for 11 months.  It is

an expectation that all perpetual trophies MUST be returned to the RSSS after 11 months.  All holders of trophies will be held responsible for their safe custody, engraving and return at their own expense.  All trophies must be returned in the same condition they were received.

 

6.7 CRIT ONLY – RSSS OR Discipline Chairs reserves the right to allow an item to

perform for crit only in the event there are insufficient entries to meet our minimum requirements to run a section with prize money, or there is deemed to be a conflict of interest as determined by the RSSS board, section chair or adjudicator.

 

7. RIGHTS OF BOARD

 

7.1 FINAL DECISION - The decision of the board in all questions and unresolved disputes arising out of, or not provided for, by these conditions, shall be final.

 

7.2 RECORDING - Refer General Rule 2.10, C.

 

8. SAFETY

 

8.1 RISK - Competitors acknowledge that they compete at their own risk.

 

8.2 Performances should be designed to be safe for the performer, audience and theatre. Any ‘unusual’ items should be discussed with RSSS and the theatre technician first.

 

8.3 THEATRE REQUIREMENTS – All competitors performing must read “theatre rules” and the “risk assessment” as specified on the Competition pages of the RSSS website http://royalsouthstreet.com.au/ and act where relevant.

 

8.4 The theatre technician and stage manager may prevent a planned performance if in their opinion technical safety is inadequate. Risk assessment forms (JSEA) are required for any performances using props that have ANY risk associated with their use including things such as balls, ladders, or wheeled items for example. Forms are available from our website and should be submitted at/by the deadline list on our website which is at least two weeks prior to commencement of the discipline. Please contact the RSSS office if you are unsure.

 

8.5 The theatre technician, stage manager or adjudicator has the right to stop any item if they are of the opinion a competitor has suffered a serious injury, or there is a possible risk of serious injury.

 

8.6 Items so stopped (8.4, 8.5) may be repeated and adjudicated normally, at an appropriate time, subject to the opinion of the adjudicator and stage manager on the nature of the danger. Calisthenics: See safety requirement ACF Rules 1.1.k viii & ix.

 

8.7 Minor accidents which occur due to faulty property, choreography, or costume design, are not necessarily a reason for such a stop and restart of an item.  Only the ultimate safety of the competitor is to be considered.

 

8.8 All patrons must observe directions or commands given by theatre personnel, Royal South Street Society Staff and Volunteers.

 

8.9 In the event of evacuation of the theatre, patrons should comply with directions from Theatre staff and Royal South Street Society Staff & Trained Ushers.
