Specific Terms and Conditions of Entry to BPAC 2022

Participation at BPAC at own risk

Any performer taking part in a dance event takes certain inherent risks in so doing. Participation in BPAC 2022 indicates the acceptance of such risks by all Scholarship Candidates and/or the Candidate’s parent/guardian. In registering for BPAC Scholarships, all Candidates (and/or their parents/guardians) acknowledge that performances are physically demanding, and may involve the risk of injuries occurring. By virtue of entering BPAC 2022, it is acknowledged and agreed that no participant shall hold Brisbane Performing Arts Challenge Inc, or its Officers, Directors, Officials, Staff or Employees liable for any injury sustained or illness contracted by the participant whilst in attendance at BPAC 2022, including in any activity related to BPAC 2022. Neither Brisbane Performing Arts Challenge Inc, nor St John’s Anglican College are liable for any personal injury or property loss to either Candidates or spectators at BPAC 2022.

All Candidates are required to undertake appropriate warm up prior to the commencement of every Scholarship class and prior to performance in Semi-Finals and/or Finals. Candidates participate in Scholarship classes, and perform in Semi-Finals and/or Finals at their own risk, and agree they are of good health and are physically able to participate in the Scholarships. BPAC is not liable for any injury sustained during the Scholarship classes or the Scholarship Semi-Finals/Finals.

Candidates Eligibility

Scholarship winners from 2021 are ineligible to compete again in the same age bracket in 2022. Scholarship winners from 2021 may compete in the next age bracket if the Candidate qualifies for that age bracket. No Candidate may compete in an age bracket that is outside the Candidate’s age as at 31 December 2022.

Any person who is related to, or who has been taught or coached during the preceding six months prior to BPAC 2022 by the Scholarship Judge for the Scholarships genre entered is not eligible to compete at BPAC 2022.

Competitor Code of Conduct

BPAC’s core values include respect and integrity. During its history, BPAC has enjoyed a supportive, friendly, safe and enjoyable environment, where the camaraderie of the performing arts industry is highlighted and promoted. It is inherently understood and accepted that all Candidates at BPAC 2022 will adhere to the principles of self-respect, respect for other persons and respect for property, and that appropriately respectful and courteous behaviour is exhibited at all times by all persons. Under no circumstances will verbally and/or physically abusive behaviour, foul language, or disrespectful behaviour toward BPAC Officials, Staff and/or Volunteers, other Candidates, or any other person present at BPAC be tolerated. Should such behaviours occur, the offending Candidate will be asked to leave immediately. This Code of Conduct also applies to parents, family members and friends of Candidates.

BPAC reserves the right to remove a Candidate from a Scholarship class, Scholarship Semi-Final or Scholarship Final if the Candidate breaches any of the BPAC terms and conditions, behaves inappropriately or is disruptive to other Candidates. Should a Candidate be removed from a Scholarship class, the Candidate will be disqualified from the competition and will not be eligible to perform again in that genre at BPAC 2022.

Failure to comply with any of the terms and conditions set out in this document, or any further terms and conditions advised during the course of the Scholarships may result in the withholding of Scholarship prizes and/or disqualification of the Candidate. No correspondence will be entered into as a result of such action.

Judges Decision is Final

The Judge’s decision is final, and no discussion will be entered into by BPAC with any Candidate or Candidate’s parent/guardian in relation to the Judge’s decision. No further feedback or discussion will be considered following the Scholarship Finals. No written reports will be given by the Judge. Verbal feedback will be given only at the Judge’s discretion and will be addressed to the group as a whole at the Scholarship classes. No individual feedback will be given to any Candidates. Should the Judge be dissatisfied with the standard of competition, the Judge may elect not to award prizes for any category, even if such prize is listed in the BPAC Programme. Personal communication with the Judge is strictly prohibited during the holding of the Scholarships. If it is determined that a Candidate, a Candidate’s parent/guardian, or any other person associated with the Candidate has attempted to make personal contact with the Judge prior to or during the Scholarships, the Candidate will be immediately disqualified from the Scholarships. Communication with Judges is to be undertaken only by BPAC Officials. All queries relating to the event must be addressed firstly through the relevant Convenor.

Performance at BPAC Gala on Sunday 26 June 2022

Scholarship Winners MUST perform at the BPAC Gala on Sunday 26 June 2022. Failure to perform at Gala will result in the forfeiture of the Scholarship and of all prizes awarded thereunder. Should a Scholarship Winner be determined to have forfeited the prize, it will be reallocated to the Runner Up who will be awarded the title of Scholarship Winner and will receive all prizes allocated for the Scholarship Winner.

This is a strict condition of entry and all Candidates agree that they will be bound by this condition of entry.

Registration and Payment

For BPAC 2022, all competitions, including Scholarships, will be registered online through the competition entry system, Stardom (www.stardom.com.au). Candidates are required to register through the Stardom website, and a Candidate’s Pass must be ordered and paid for at the time of registration. Payment will be required in order to complete entry and

registration. Payment can be made by either Visa or Mastercard through the secure online payment system. Direct deposit is also available. No registration will be accepted until full payment has been received.

BPAC has used Stardom for some time for the Schools and Groups sections. Scholarships entries must now also be registered through Stardom. Accordingly, some Scholarship competitors may be using the system for the first time. Candidates who have not used Stardom in the past must register and set up a profile before being able to enter BPAC 2022. Once the profile is created, Stardom will guide users through the required procedure for entry to BPAC 2022.

If Candidates experience difficulty in completing registration through Stardom, or require assistance with registration, they may contact BPAC Management Committee members, Nicky Manego on 0418 789 836, or Ally Hannon on 0403 055 078.

If the Candidate is entering BPAC for the first time, or did not compete in BPAC 2021,  proof of age MUST be provided with the Registration Form. Proof of age includes a scanned PDF copy of the Candidate’s birth certificate, passport, or, for Senior Candidates, a Learner’s Permit or Driver’s Licence. If the Candidate competed at BPAC 2021 and provided proof of age, it does not need to be provided again for BPAC 2022. If there is any doubt as to whether proof of age is required, confirmation in writing should be obtained from the Convenor. All personal information collected by BPAC is used for the purposes of administration and staging of the BPAC event only, and is not disclosed to any third parties.

Entries close on Friday 1 April, 2022. Late entries will be not accepted for BPAC 2022 events.

Class sizes are capped for each age group. No changes will be made to classes once the Candidate has been allocated to a class.

Confirmation of Registration

All Candidates will receive a confirmation letter providing confirmation of registration acceptance, Candidate number, class allocated, time of class and any other relevant information two weeks prior to the Scholarship class date. If no confirmation has been received from the relevant Convenor within two weeks prior to the scheduled date of the Scholarship, it is the Candidate’s responsibility to contact the Convenor and provide details of proof of registration submission.

Candidates Pass

A Candidate’s Pass is compulsory for all Scholarships Candidates and is included in the Scholarships Entry Fee. Each pass must be completed in permanent pen with the name of the Candidate to whom the pass belongs. Candidates need a pass to compete and will not be allowed into the auditorium without a Candidate’s Pass clearly named and prominently displayed. Candidate’s Passes MUST be pre-ordered at the time of registration. The Candidate’s Pass will entitle the Candidates to view all BPAC 2022 events, including the participation in Workshops. Candidate Passes may be collected from either the BPAC Office as of 4 June 2022 (the first day of BPAC), or as part of the Candidate’s Registration pack, which will be given to the Candidate at the time of signing in at the Registration desk immediately prior to the Candidate’s Scholarship Class.

Refund Policy

Prize monies are generously provided by the Sponsors of BPAC and by BPAC itself. BPAC is funded by sponsorship, registration fees, donations, and ticket sales, and accordingly, NO REFUNDS will be given for withdrawal from the Scholarships for any reason, other than medical. A 50% refund of registration fees may be given upon withdrawal from the Scholarships due to a medical condition which prevents the Candidate from competing at BPAC, or due to a medical condition which may be contagious and a threat to other Candidates UPON PROOF of such condition via a medical certificate from a registered medical practitioner.
