- This section is intended for vocalists who sing in a contemporary (modern) style and not a classical style; with songs selected from a modern repertoire. Competitors who sing in a classical style are referred to the Classical Vocal section.
- Competitors may perform to:
- A professional backing tape, which may contain backing vocals only (ie. No Principal/Lead Vocal allowed.)
- Sing to a piano or other instrumental accompaniment
- Self- accompany the item with piano or guitar, or sing to a live instrumental backing group of no more than four musicians.
- Competitors entering any “Song from a Stage Musical” Section must provide the title of the song, details as from which Stage Musical the selected song was originally performed, together with the name of the composer. These details are to be included when submitting the entry. The song presented MUST be from a Stage Musical – it can only be from a film if it has also been produced as a stage musical.
- The Society requires each competitor to collect his/her C.D. from the foyer immediately after the section.
- Competitors are not required to provide music scores for the adjudicator.
- Your music will be played for you. Music should be cued. No cuing of music in the hall is allowed. C.D.s used must be of a high standard. A separate CD must be provided for each section entered.
- The Society accepts no responsibility for C.D.s that do not play correctly
- It is recommended that each competitor has a duplicate copy of his/her music, thus avoiding technical issues which may arise. (This may be on a digital device.)
- GENRES AVAILABLE -
UPBEAT, POP/ROCK, OR R&B VOCAL SOLOS: Singers must choose a song from the contemporary popular repertoire in an upbeat style. STAGE MUSICAL: Singers must choose a character song from a stage musical and demonstrate the vocal qualities appropriate to the selected song. It can only be from a film if it has also been produced as a stage musical. COUNTRY MUSIC: Singers must choose a Contemporary or Traditional Country and Western song which must be sung in a country style. Adjudication will be based on singers who stylistically represent good country techniques and song choice. Traditional Country and Western songs are encouraged. CONTEMPORARY BALLAD: Singers must choose a song from the contemporary popular repertoire in a Ballad style. FILM or T.V. SOLO: (NewSection2019) Singers must choose to sing a song from a Movie or T.V. Show. JAZZ, BLUES or SOUL: Singers must choose a song within the Jazz or Blues genre - either Upbeat or Ballad.
- SPECIAL SECTIONS
- SINGER SONG WRITER: (New Sections 2019) Competitors are to present their own original song. Adjudication will be based on both the composition of the song and the vocal proficiency of the competitor.
- FAMILY DUET, TRIO OR ENSEMBLE – Any age, any genre (New Section 2019)
Family members may choose to present a Contemporary Voice Duet, Trio or Ensemble. This is open to competitors of any age, Singers may choose, an own choice item in any contemporary genre
- V.C.E. MUSIC PERFORMANCE AND MUSIC INVESTIGATION: (New Sections 2019) This section is ONLY for students who are studying Units 1 - 4 V.C.E. Music Performance or V.C.E. Music Investigation in the current year.
- PERFORMANCE SHOWCASE SOLOS. (Sections MV308, MV318, MV328, MV338, MV348)
In addition to adjudicating vocal technique, the adjudicator will also take into consideration entertainment and performance qualities. The following conditions will apply to this section: a) Competitors must have PERFORMED in at least 3 other Contemporary Vocal sections in their age group at this Eisteddfod. b) Competitors are to perform ONLY one song from ANY GENRE in this Showcase section c) This item cannot be a repeat of any item performed at this Eisteddfod.
