Entries and Fees

All entries accompanied by the correct fees should be completed and submitted with payment no later than 5 pm Friday April 13th 2018.

Late entries/late payment will strictly not be accepted.  All entries are to be made electronically by accessing on line www.stardom.com.au.

Each competitor pays a fee per section entered, as printed on the computer-generated invoice, plus a single administration fee appearing on the invoice after all required sections have been entered.

Competitors, teachers and parents are advised to read the General Rules and Conditions as well as specific rules for this Division.

1.   They may not compete in more than ONE voice range.

2.   Performance from memory is expected, except for oratorio works where the convention is to perform holding the score.

3.   Works from Oratorios may only be sung in Sections V729, V734 and V736.

4.   Operatic works may only be sung in Sections V710, V720, V725, V734 and V736.

5.   Art Songs may not be sung in Ballad Only sections (see list below).

6.   If competitors wish to ensure eligibility of their choice of items, they should forward a list to the Secretary before June 30, 2018.

7.   A legible copy of the music to be performed must be provided for the adjudicator.   Photocopies for this purpose will be destroyed by the Convenor, but original music must be collected at the conclusion of the Section.  (See General Rule 23 re photocopied material). 

8.   All competitors must provide an original copy of the music to be performed. This original music will be sighted when booking in for competitions.

9.   Where photocopying is being used it is the responsibility of the competitor to ensure that the copy has been obtained legally and that AMCOS/APRA copyright forms are completed and presented at the time of booking in.

10These forms may be obtained from teachers, convenors, on the Adelaide Eisteddfod Society web site and at the venue.

11The Eisteddfod Society Inc. is required to destroy all photocopied music at the completion of competitions.

12.  When a competitor is singing in a language other than English, he/she must give a BRIEF translation to the audience.  A LITERAL TRANSLATION OF EVERY WORD IS NOT REQUIRED.

13.  Competitors are not to communicate with the adjudicator until he/she has completed competing in all sections entered.

14.  The Eisteddfod Society has the right to cancel a section where there are insufficient entries to make it a viable section, or to offer only the first prize where there are minimal entry numbers.

BALLAD COMPOSERS  (representative list):

Ballads are usually songs of two or more verses, each of which may be sung to the same melody.  A Ballad is composed, as distinct from a traditional folk song.

ARNOLD MATTERS VOCAL SCHOLARSHIP TRUST Previous First Prize Winners of V736 are ineligible; competition is open only to competitors who have been resident in Australia for a minimum of 12 months. NOTE: ENTRY INTO V733, SONG BY AN AUSTRALIAN COMPOSER, IS A PREREQUISITE FOR ENTRY INTO V736. Each competitor will sing the following in the HEATS, ***Time Limit 12 minutes, (a) Any Aria from the accepted opera repertoire AND (b) A Lied in German. A MAXIMUM OF 6 FINALISTS WILL BE CHOSEN. FINAL, ***Time Limit 18 minutes, Each competitor will sing: (a) The same aria as they chose for the Heat AND (b) A selection from Oratorio AND (c) An English Art Song Copies of selections must be provided for the adjudicator. Competitors must provide their own accompanist and be sure he/she is available to perform at the required time. Finalists will be required to produce a written program to indicate how they would be using the scholarship over a three year period. This time frame will be strictly adhered to. In addition to performances, emphasis will be placed on an interview by a panel including the adjudicator and a member of the Management Committee. Subject to a satisfactory interview and acceptable future studies program, the winner will be offered the scholarship. If in the opinion of the interviewing panel, the $5,000 scholarship should not be offered to the winner, then only the $1,000 1st Prize will be awarded. The second place-getter may be offered the scholarship if his/her standard is high enough and the proposed use of the Scholarship acceptable. NOTE: $20 DEPOSIT is REFUNDED when entrant arrives to compete in the heat.

Singers from the Vocal Division who have been a resident in South Australia for at least twelve months prior to December 31st, 2024, may be selected for a chance to compete in the 5MBS Final of the "Young Virtuoso Competition". Either an instrumentalist or vocalist may then be selected to compete against interstate competitors from participating states. There will not be a specific section in which singers must perform. The adjudicator's decision will be based on all sections competitors have entered in the 2024 Vocal Division, and competitors will need to demonstrate performance and vocal skills across a diverse range of singing styles. Only singers who have entered this section will be considered.
