HAMILTON EISTEDDFOD DANCE AWARDS

The Hamilton Eisteddfod will hold a 2-day dance event in August 2021 at the Hamilton Performing Arts Centre (PAC). Competitors will attend a classical ballet Open Class in the morning of their competition, before performing two adjudicated solos on the same day. Audience tickets will be available for afternoon sessions, but only participating students may attend the morning classes.
Two Australian Ballet Summer School Scholarships will be awarded at the event, and two Principal Artists from the Australian Ballet will be special guests:
Amy Harris: Open Class facilitator and Adjudicator for Classical Dance sections
Jarryd Madden: Adjudicator for Contemporary/Lyrical Dance sections
COMPETITOR CONDITIONS
COVID Safe EVENT:
1. This event will be held in line with Victorian Government COVID-19 guidelines and requirements. All attendees will be required to check-in using the mandatory QR Code Service for contact tracing, and follow all other COVID-19 regulations.
ENTRIES:
2. Entries open on Monday 7th June 2021. Entries close at midnight on Thursday 18th August 2021. Entries must be submitted on the STARDOM online competition system by the closing date. Late entries will not be accepted.
3. All entries must comply with the Competitor Conditions at the time of entry.
4. The entrant’s age on the 1st of January of the current year shall be deemed the age of the entrant.
5. Each entrant must attend the Open Class and enter two age-appropriate sections (Classical Dance and Contemporary/Lyrical).
6.Payment is to be made at time of entry, and costs $52 per competitor.
This fee includes the following: the Open Class, entry into two age-appropriate sections, one adult audience ticket(mandatory) and a $2.00 administrative fee.
7. Up to three additional adult tickets can be purchased per competitor, and at a cost of $20 each. Children under 16 can attend as audience members free of charge.
8. Entries are non-refundable, unless the event is cancelled by the Hamilton Eisteddfod at which time the Committee will issue refunds for all competitors, minus a $15 administrative fee..
9. There will be a maximum of 25 competitors per section. There is no waiting list.

COMPETITION SECTIONS:
10. Competition sections are outlined in the Timetable above.
11. The time limit for each competitor in each section is 3 minutes.
12. The following prize money will be available for each section: First: $60 Second: $40 Third: $20
13. No trophies or medals will be awarded. Adjudication crit sheets will not be provided.
14. Competitors are to wear classical class attire.
SCHOLARSHIPS:
- 15. T 15. Two major prizes will be awarded at the event: a. Australian Ballet Summer School Scholarship (12 years and under) A scholarship to attend the Australian Ballet Summer School will be awarded to one student who performs in either the ‘10 years and under’ or ‘12 years and under’ age group.
- b. Au b. Australian Ballet Summer School Scholarship (13 years and over) A second scholarship to attend the Australian Ballet Summer School will be awarded to one student who who performs in either the ‘14 years and under’ or ‘15 years and over’ age group.
- 16. T 16. To be eligible for an Australian Ballet Summer School Scholarship, students must attend the Open Class on stage and perform in both Contemporary/Lyrical and Classical secti sections for their age group.
RECORDED SOUND:
17. Competitors using recorded sound must bring a device such as an iPod/iPad with each dance backing track on a separate playlist. The device’s lock code must be disabled, and Flight Mode must be turned on.
18. All media must be in mp3 format, and USB's can be used as a backup only.
19. Competitors using recorded sound must notify the Registration Desk at the time of registration. The Registration Desk must be informed of what device will be used.
ADJUDICATORS:
20. Communication with the Adjudicator is prohibited during the competitions, whether by competitors, teachers or interested parties.
21. The Committee reserves the right to use a substitute Adjudicator in any section.
22. The Adjudicator reserves the right to withhold any prize where insufficient merit has been displayed.
TEACHER PASSES
23. To obtain a teacher/coach pass to remain backstage, a current VIT (Victorian Teacher’s Registration) or equivalent or a Working With Children Check needs to be presented to the Secretary’s Desk for a pass to be issued. A limit of 2 teacher’s passes for each school will be allocated. The pass needs to be prominently displayed and will entitle the teacher to free admission to the auditorium. A coach’s pass will not entitle the holder to free admission to the auditorium. (A coach is an individual who is assisting a performer where no teacher is available.) This condition is not published on the website but will apply for this competition
