Specific Rules for Instrumental Sections
Instrumental Music and Bands dates are 1st June to 4th June 2026.
Note: Entries close Friday 1st May, 11pm; Late entries Monday 4th May, 11pm and will incur a $13 fee;
No entries will be taken after May 5th, 2026.
Adjudicator: Mr Peter Grant
Venue: Emmanuel Hall, Ardlie Street, Warrnambool
Rules Specific to Bands
- Contrasting pieces of your own choice to be played.
- Primary and Secondary school bands play 2 contrasting pieces.
- Open/Community Bands play 3 contrasting pieces.
- Manuscripts & Music Notation:
- All bars must be numbered on manuscript copy
- Adjudicator MUST be supplied with LEGIBLE PHOTOCOPIES of the MUSIC NOTATION (no originals please) which will be returned for destruction following adjudication.
- It is ESSENTIAL that PRINTED MUSIC NOTATION is provided so the adjudicator can follow the music you are playing. IF NO PRINTED MUSIC NOTATION IS PROVIDED YOU MAY BE DISQUALIFIED.
- A band should be a group of 11 plus players, with any instrument combination.
- Stage will be ambient miched and set at same level for all bands.
- Production notes and stage plans should be forwarded to Stage Manager.
- School Bands competing should be composed mainly of full-time students currently enrolled at the school.
PLEASE NOTE: Teachers may assist in the following ways:
- Play where there is a missing part but not doubling up on parts already covered by students.
Staff cannot exceed 1/3
- Nonplaying teachers may sit beside students and assist with following music.
- In the contemporary section there may be 4 or more players.
- Production notes and stage plans should be forwarded to Stage Manager.
- Stage will be ambient miched and set at same level for all bands.
- A Sound tech will be provided.
- Pieces can be modern of any genre.
- Appropriate language; no swearing.
- School Bands competing should be composed mainly of full-time students currently enrolled at the school.
PLEASE NOTE: Teachers may assist in the following ways:
- Play where there is a missing part but not doubling up on parts already covered by students.
Staff cannot exceed 1/3
- Nonplaying teachers may sit beside students and assist with following music.
- Entry fees will NOT be refunded should competitor fail to compete in any section, once program has been printed.
