RULES AND CONDITIONS
1. AGE (a) Age is taken from 1 January 2023
(b) Troupe and Duo/Trio- strictly the age of the eldest competitor.
(c) Competitors are permitted to compete up one age group in solos and duos but may not repeat any routines (Except Championships & Scholarships)
(d) Competitors must carry a copy of their Birth Certificate at all times.
2. ADJUDICATOR (a) The Adjudicator’s decision is final
(b) With the exception of the Committee, no person shall be allowed to approach the Adjudicator or the Adjudicator’s table throughout the competition.
(c) At no time during the Eisteddfod shall the Adjudicator have access to the competitor’s or studio names and any person who has been a student of the Adjudicator in the last 12 months must withdraw immediately
3. PROTESTS (a) Protests must be made in writing immediately to the report desk at a cost of $30.00. The fee will be returned if the protest is found valid.
4. COMMITTEE (a) The committee reserves the right to cancel, join or split sections
(b) The committee can appoint a substitute adjudicator.
(c) The committee can alter the program running order without notice.
(d) Any decision on issues not covered in the rules will be final.
5. ENTRIES (a) All entries must be received by 17 March 2023
(b) Late entries will not be accepted.
(c) Full payment must be sent with entries.
(d) Refunds will not be given once entries are received unless the committee cancels a section.

6. MUSIC (a) Electronic music upload for all entries. Instructions will be sent to competitors with the program.
(b) Backing vocals are not permitted for Song & Dance (song part only) Classical or Demi sections but will be allowed for Tap sections.
(c) No background tapping sounds for any tap sections.
(d) All music is submitted electronically before the event to https://www.musicuploads.com.au
7. TROUPES (a) A minimum number of 4 dancers in a Troupe
(b) Age of Troupe competitors is taken as of 1 January 2023
(c) Studios may enter as many times as they like in a Troupe section.
8. TIME LIMITS (a) Solos 3 mins
Duo/Trio 3 mins
Troupes 5 mins
9. PRIZES (a) Audio Critiques are uploaded to Music Uploads
(b) 1-5 competitors 2 prizes
6-10 competitors 3 prizes
11-14 competitors 4 prizes
15 or more competitors 5 prizes
(Prizes may be reduced if dropouts occur)
(c) The Adjudicator may withhold any placing if he/she feels that a suitable standard has not been achieved.
10. CATAGORIES (a) Restricted sections are for those who have never been placed 1st in that particular category in any age group except 6/u up to the closing date of entries for this Eisteddfod.
(b) Open sections are for those who have been placed first in that particular category in any age group except 6/u up to the closing date of entries for this Eisteddfod.
(d) A restricted competitor may also compete in open if they have more than one dance in that particular category but must not repeat any routine. A change of costume or music does not constitute a change of routine.
(e) National Character must comprise of traditional dance movement from one specified nation/country.
11. ADMISSION (a) Admission is free during solo, duo/trio, championship and scholarship events.
(b) Group Day admission is as follows:

Tickets can be purchased through Sticky Tickets prior to the event. All tickets must be purchased before the event to allow RDF to control numbers in accordance with current COVID-19 Safety Regulations.

(c) Free admission during Solo, Duo/Trio, Championships and Scholarship Events
As of our 2020 competition patrons will no longer need to purchase tickets to watch performances during Solo, Duo/Trio, Championships and Scholarship Events. Yes, that means admission is free!
2023 entry fees have been increased slightly because the competitor fee has been removed.
12. COMPETITORS (a) Competitors perform at their own risk. No responsibility will be accepted for any injury, damage or loss of property during the Eisteddfod. This also applies to spectators.
(b) No rehearsing in the hall or on stage at any time.
(c) Competitors must be ready to compete in the order stated in the program. Dancing out of order will only be permitted if there is a quick change and only with permission of the Backstage Manager.
(d) Dancing en pointe is not permitted for competitors aged 10/u and competitors older who choose to dance en pointe will be expected to have the ability to do so. The adjudicator may at any stage in the dance ring the bell and dancers will be asked to change their shoes and perform at the end of the section.
(e) No parents are to remain back-stage except to put on props. Parents must leave backstage once the child has finished.
(f) Solo competitors may only dance once in a section and Duo/Trio may appear only twice but with different partners
13. IMPROVISATIONS
(a) Ballet, Tap, Lyrical & Cotemporary- a plain coloured leotard and tights are to be worn. No dance pants or skirts. No sequins. Matching hair ribbon or flower is fine. No Jewellery or accessories.
(b) Jazz & Hip Hop- Plain Leotard is to be worn (Crop top for Hip Hop is allowed). Dance Pants or bike shorts permitted. No jewellery or accessories.
(c) Male competitors must wear plain dance clothes.
(d) Improvisations CAN NOT be used to qualify for RDF Scholarships
14. DONATIONS (a) All donations are gratefully appreciated and will be acknowledged in the program.
15. PROGRAMS (a) Are only available electronically and will be distributed as follows:
- Programs will be emailed to the contact email of each competitor.
- Online: vis the website www.riversidedancefestival.com
- During the event: Airdrop available from the canteen
16. AGGREGATES (a) Competitors are awarded points for places. The points are accumulated and the performer with the most points for their age group wins the aggregate.
(b) Championships and Scholarships are not counted in the aggregate.
(c) Duo & Trio events are not counted in the aggregate.
17. COVID-19 As always, we are guided by ACT Government legislation and restrictions. If RDF is affected by COVID-19 lockdown, closures, or increased restrictions, we will assess the situation as needed. If we are required to lockdown we will go through the following options:
Step 1.
Reschedule the competition if a lockdown end date is provided by the ACT Government - subject to theatre availability
Step 2.
If we cannot reschedule the event, we will provide a refund to all competitors (minus an administration fee $15.00)
During the 2020 lockdown we issued refunds to all competitors. We still had
expenses, withholding the admin fee of $15.00 will not cover but contribute to those
costs. We appreciate your understanding and patience if we need to go through the
refund process.
What if the RDF is still running but an individual competitor is unable to attend the
competition due to a lockdown or self-isolation?
We understand this is a complicated situation and we will do our best to ensure a
positive outcome. These cases will be assessed on an individual basis depending on
the information provided and the financial commitment RDF has entered
SPONSORSHIP
We are looking for businesses that are interested in sponsoring this Festival. Your sponsorship will go towards increasing the prizes and prize money awarded to competitors. Sponsorship is divided into 3 categories.
1. Premium- Cost $150 you receive a full-page (A4) advertisement in the program, acknowledgment at the beginning of each session for duration of the Festival and priority listing on the Donations and Sponsorship page in the program.
2. Major- Cost $75 you receive a half (A4) page advertisement

3. Donation- we gratefully accept all donations big and small. This money will help to provide great prizes.
Closing date for sponsorship is 23 March 2023 and we will then contact you to arrange advertisement details.

CHAMPIONSHIPS
To qualify
- Compete in open solo sections.
- Compete in relevant sections e.g. Jazz Championship students must compete in two of the following Jazz, Broadway Jazz and/or Hip Hop.
- Compete in at leastonerelevant improvisation section. E.g. Modern/Contemporary Championship students must compete in the age appropriate Lyrical/Modern Expressive and Contemporary sections.
Performance in Championship
Students who participate in the Championship will perform TWO routines as stated within the Championship guidelines below. Students may repeat ONE routine previously performed in the Solo Section. The SECOND routine must only be performed in the Championship.

SCHOLARSHIPS
The purpose of the Riverside Dance Festival Scholarships is to encourage students that show potential to continue their dance education.
To qualify
- Compete in restricted and/or open sections
- Compete in relevant sections e.g. Classical Scholarship students must compete in three of the following Classical Ballet, Demi Character, Lyrical and/or Contemporary.
- Improvisation sections do not qualify the competitor for RDF Scholarships
Performance in Scholarship
- Competitors who participate in an RDF Scholarship will perform one style appropriate routiune.
- Competitors can repeat a routine. However, you cannot repeat a routine a third time. i.e. competitors cannot do the same lyrical in the lyrical section, Modern/Contemporary Championship and the Modern/Contemporary Scholarship.
