  • SPECIFIC DANCE RULES

  •   Please note: Age for entry is taken at 31st December 2019. ie. the age the competitor will be on 31/12/2019.

 RESTRICTED means NEVER having won a FIRST PRIZE in that section at any age at any previous Eisteddfod  up until the closing date of entries.  (this refers to the title of the section, not the routine.  Competitors eligible are permitted to enter Restricted or Non- Restricted sections or both but must not repeat the same routine. )        

If there are fewer than three(3) competitors in any section, the section may be cancelled or combined with the next age group or a similar section. 

Open Sections - competitors of any age may enter these sections.


       All music to be in CD formatPlease note: CDRWs DO NOT PLAY on the Theatre’s sound system. Please ensure all CDS are CDRs. The sound system at the Civic Theatre must be used for playing of all CD’s. The Committee will provide a competent person to play music. Each dance must be on a separate CD. Please ensure a backup copy is available.


       All CDs  are to be clear and audible and CLEARLY MARKED with competitor’s name,as well as SECTION NUMBER AND COMPETITOR’S NUMBER.

     PLEASE NOTE: NO vocals on any Demi-Character or Song and Dance Routines. (except Group routines)


       Music is to be handed in to the GREENROOM AREA at least 2 sections before competing. Any specific instructions must be attached and explicit. Please leave CDs in cases. It is the competitor’s responsibility to hand in music on time and collect it after the performance.


           ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT: All electrical equipment brought into the Eisteddfod venues must be checked by a certified electrician prior to the Eisteddfod and have a current electrical tag in place. Any electrical equipment not meeting the Workplace Health and Safety guidelines will not be allowed to be used. This includes CD players, hair dryers and curlers

       Please leave dressing DRESSING ROOMS and GREENROOM tidy. No responsibility will be taken for lost or damaged property. Please ask Eisteddfod  office for lost property.

      Spraying of shoes within the theatre is PROHIBITED.

      Prompting, except by the adjudicator, will not be permitted.

      Groups who are not competing in the current section called will not be allowed in the Green Room, due to  the congestion it causes.

      

      Presentation of prizes will be on stage for Major prizes- Championships, Scholarships and Trophy awards. All other prizes are to be collected from the Eisteddfod Office following adjudication- ie report sheets, medals, monies, certificates.
  

PROPS RULING

 

       Props will be limited to ONE prop PLUS a choice of either a small prop OR a hand-held prop. A chair will be allowed if needed to complete a set. (ie table and chair set together etc.) NO straw, glitter, lighted candles, sparklers, lighted cigarettes, or any naked flame will be permitted. For further clarification please contact a dance committee member.)

       All equipment must be moved from the backstage area at the conclusion of each session.


IMPROVISATION

Ballet/Demi - to be danced in a single coloured one-piece leotard ( a short sheer ballet skirt is permissible - no hair accessories permitted)

                                 Jazz/Tap/Modern/Contemporary - to be danced in a single coloured one-piece leotard (a short sheer ballet skirt or jazz shorts are permissible) - no hair accessories permitted.

   The adjudicator will choose the music.




          PHOTOGRAPHY:  Winkipop  Media (on stage photographs) and KEA Video productions will be in attendance for the Dancing Sections of the eisteddfod.

NO VIDEO OR PHOTOGRAPHS ARE TO BE TAKEN AT THE PERFORMANCE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHERS. This includes the use of mobile phones, ipods or tablets.

 CODE OF CONDUCT

The code of conduct applies to all who attend the eisteddfod.



 COMPETITORS -Please note that the use of inappropriate costuming, lyrics or choreography may lead to disqualification from that section. Following recommendations by Adjudicators, the following rule now applies: Tights must be worn by all girls in all dance performances, (excluding school groups) - or the competitor will not be eligible to perform. Tights can be footed, footless, stirrup, knee or mid-thigh length.
 SOCIAL MEDIA- Please be aware that defamation of character on social media towards any person involved in our Eisteddfod will not be tolerated and may result in disqualification or legal ramifications.
 THEATRE ETIQUETTE- No whistling or yelling during  or after performances. All costumes must  be covered when in the theatre audience. Please  do not enter or leave the theatre when performers are on stage.
 INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOUR - Inappropriate behaviour towards volunteers and Committee Members will NOT be tolerated  and may lead to disqualification.


                                                                                                                                                                                                           


PLEASE NOTE: When signing or agreeing to the declaration when entering, you are giving the City of Orange Eisteddfod Committee permission to reproduce any information necessary for compilation of the program including photos for publicity purposes.

If you do not want to be photographed, it is the competitor's or carer's responsibility to notify a Committee person.                                                                                                                                                                   



TIME LIMITS (unless otherwise stated)

 

SOLOS                                                 6yrs & under                   up to 2.5mins

                                                             7 yrs & over                     up to 3mins

SONG & DANCE SOLOS                                                              up to 3.5mins

DUOS/TRIOS                                                                                up to 3.5mins

GROUPS (INCLUDING SCHOOL GROUPS)                               up to 5mins

SONG & DANCE/THEATRICAL GROUPS                                  up to 8mins

 

TIME LIMITS WILL BE STRICTLY ADHERED TO.

A timer will be in use during the entire Eisteddfod. After the set time has elapsed,  the music will be faded, adjudication will cease and the competitor must bow and exit the stage. Disqualification will only take place if this rule is not adhered to.


GROUPS


       Tickets for Groups except school groups) will go on sale through Ticketek – Orange Civic Theatre approx 3 weeks prior to performances. 

       Schools will be notified of further details.

       Time Limit for Groups: All Groups (including Schools) – up to 5mins unless specified. Entertainment Groups – up to 8mins.

 

Group Rules:

                 Groups must consist of 4 or more dancers.

                 15yrs & over Groups – ALL competitors MUST be 15yrs & over (Time Limit – up to 8mins)

                 18yrs & over Groups – ALL competitors MUST be 18yrs & over (Time Limit – up to 8mins)

                  

A competitor may only  compete ONCE in each group section. 

NB: EXCEPTIONS.

In sections 159 - Song & Dance/Theatrical - 12 yrs & under

    173 - Song & Dance/Theatrical  -Open

                                                                                                                                                     176 - 18 yrs & over/ adult

                                                                                                                                                     177-183 - School groups

Each competitor may only compete a maximum of twice in these sections.


 

   

                 Teachers please note that curtains will be used only at the beginning of routines if time permits & at the discretion of Committee for 8 years and under group sections if needed. .  Curtains WILL NOT be used at the end of routines. PLEASE NOTE: Curtains will not be used for all other groups. Please consider this when choreographing group routines.

                 Group Sections will be combined if insufficient entries.

                 Competitors will not be allowed in the Theatre during the Groups Weekend unless holding a seat ticket.

                 All electrical equipment to be used in the theatre during the Eisteddfod MUST be tagged by a certified electrician.

                 Strictly no use of Videos or still photography in the theatre. This is a breach of copyright

             WINKIPOP MEDIA will be taking photographs on stage during all group performances and these can be ordered from www.winkipopmedia.com.au

             KEA VIDEO PRODUCTIONS will be in attendance for video performances at the Civic Theatre.  

                 Ruling for Vocals on CDs does not apply to Groups Sections

                 List of Competitors’ Names in each Group must be handed to Backstage Committee or office person prior to Groups taking stage (WH&S rulings).

                 Students & teachers must also abide by the City of Orange Eisteddfod’s Code of Conduct.


Group Dance – School (Must be entered by School – NOT a Dance School)

 

Time Limit – up to 5mins

 

Competitors may perform any style of Dance. This may include Vocal, Theatrical or Entertainment genres.

Please notify Committee if a hand held microphone is required.

 

NOTE:  School Dance Groups will be scheduled during School Hours and will be held at the Function Centre to allow students to enter the hall before/after competing.

 

       Schools may enter more than one group in each section. Each individual competitor may only compete a maximum of twice in each section (for further clarification if needed please contact a member of the Dance Committee).

       The committee MUST BE NOTIFIED of any such GROUPS & CROSSOVER COMPETITORS when entering to allow time for programming.

       Teachers please note that curtains will be used only at the beginning of routines if time permits & at the discretion of Committee. Curtains WILL NOT be used at the end of routines.

       List of Competitors’ Names in each Group must be handed to the office area with your music (Workplace Health & Safety rulings).

       Students & teachers must also abide by the City of Orange Eisteddfod’s Code of Conduct.

       KEA Video Productions will be available on the day to video performances. Please notify  Eisteddfod Committee if groups are not to be videoed.

 

 

DUOS & TRIOS (Time limit - 3.5 mins)

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            

       Competitors may enter twice in each section providing it is a different style of dance – eg. Jazz and Classical

       An individual dancer may compete a maximum of twice in a duo/trio style provided each entry is with a different partner.

       Sections may be combined if insufficient entries.

       Names of Duo/Trio competitors and dates of birth must be indicated on entry form or entry will not be accepted – once program is published partners cannot be altered unless Committee notified prior to commencement of Eisteddfod.


SCHOLARSHIPS

 

LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS (Sub-Junior, Junior, Intermediate, Senior)


 

The adjudicator will award the Local Scholarship to a local competitor - i.e. one who is a permanent student of an Orange Dance School.

 

1.               Winners of previous Scholarships are ineligible to enter the same section. However if a competitor has won a lower age Scholarship, they may enter in the next age scholarship when of eligible age.

2.               Prize money to be used for further tuition at an Orange Dance School.

3.               Competitors will perform in the scheduled allocated time for identification to the adjudicator.

4.               Time limit appropriate to own age section.

 

BETTY KEIRNAN MEMORIAL BALLET SCHOLARSHIP

 

Major Prize: $2,000 for winner of Scholarship – Open to competitors entered in 13yrs & over sections - Entry fee $27

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

1.               Previous winners of the Betty Keirnan Memorial Ballet Scholarship are ineligible to enter.

2.               The adjudicator will conduct a closed class on the stage of the Orange Civic Theatre.  Plain coloured leotard and ballet tights, pointe and flat shoes will be required. (Short sheer ballet skirts are permissible).

3.               Finalists will be chosen from this class to compete in the Scholarship Dance-off.  Competitors are to perform (a) one classical and (b) a choice of either a Demi-Character or a Modern Expressive – routines may be repeated.

4.               Competitors must have entered and performed in their Ballet Championship.

5.               The adjudicator may withhold the prize money if he/she feels the standard is not high enough.

6.               Time limit – up to 4mins for each routine.

7.               This award is to further competitor's study at a major dance studio.


JAZZ SCHOLARSHIP

 

Major Prize: $1000 for winner of Scholarship - Open to competitors entered in 13yrs & over sections  - Entry Fee - $18

                                                                      

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

  1. Previous winners of the Jazz Scholarship are ineligible to enter.
  2. The Adjudicator will conduct a closed class on the stage of the Orange Civic Theatre (plain coloured one piece leotard to be worn – jazz shorts allowed).
  3. Finalists will be chosen from this class to compete in the Jazz Scholarship Dance-off.  Competitors are to perform a` Jazz routine – this routines may be repeated. (These may include Jazz, Cabaret or `Hip Hop)
  4. Competitors must enter and perform in their Jazz Championship.
  5. The adjudicator may withhold the prize money if he/she feels the standard is not high enough.
  6. Time limit – up to 4 mins for each routine.
  7. This award is to further the competitor's study at a major dance studio.

 

TAP SCHOLARSHIP* - Co-sponsored by Kea Video Productions

 

Major Prize: $1000 for winner of Scholarship - Open to competitors entered in 13yrs & over sections - Entry fees -$18

 

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

  1. Previous winners of the Tap Scholarship are ineligible to enter.
  2. The Adjudicator will conduct a closed class on the stage of the Orange Civic Theatre (plain coloured one piece leotard to be worn – jazz shorts allowed).
  3. Finalists will be chosen from this class to compete in Tap Scholarship Dance-off.  Competitors are to perform a Tap routine – this routine may be repeated
  4. Competitors must enter and perform in their Tap Championship.
  5. The adjudicator may withhold the prize money if he/she feels the standard is not high enough.
  6. Time limit – up to 4mins for each routine.
  7. This award is to further competitors study at a major dance studio.
  8. * Tap Scholarship may be cancelled if insufficient entries.

                                                                                

TROPHIES


Trophies will be awarded to competitors in various age divisions chosen by the adjudicator, for Encouragement, Consistency and Most Promising Dancers.

POINTSCORE TROPHIES - in all age divisions. Pointscore trophies are awarded on the basis of  8 points-1st; 5 points - 2nd; 3 points - 3rd; 1 point - HC

* Orange pointscore trophies to be awarded to a local dancer (2800 postcode) who is a permanent pupil of an Orange Dance School, 12 yrs & under, 13 yrs & over. Regency Jewellers sponsor the 13 yrs & over pointscore with a $50 gift voucher.

* Central West Performing Arts - 12 yrs & under and 13 yrs & over (all solo sections  included)

* Colour City Dance - All age groups (all solo/duo sections included)

* Dance HQ - All age groups (all solo/duo sections included)


SPECIAL AWARDS

* The John Hull Trophy will be awarded to a male classical dancer. (donated by the Hull Family)

* Lyndi Walley Shield for Senior Groups (13 yrs and over) will be awarded to the best overall Classical Group.

  The Cox Family Shield for Junior Groups (12 yrs and under) will be awarded to the best overall Classical Group.

* School Group Trophies will be awarded to Small Schools, Infants K-2, Primary (3-6)Secondary & Special Needs Groups.

* Garry Stocks Perpetual Trophy for most promising Tap Dancer - 13 yrs & over.

* Damon Griffiths Perpetual Trophy to winner of Open Tap Championship.

* Betty Callaghan Memorial Trophy to best overall Entertaining/Song & dance competitor (Donated by Quota Club)

* Collins Family Trophy - awarded for consistent effort by a senior competitor.

* 40th Anniversary Adjudicator Award Trophies - Awarded to a Junior and a Senior Competitor
