Competition Terms & Conditions
Conditions of Entry - Piano, Strings Wind
- Open to pianists and instrumentalists 25 years and under by 31/12/2026
- Previous winners of each section are not eligible to enter in the same section the following year but may do so in the year after; however, winners of the 3MBS Award are not eligible to enter again;
- No student of the adjudicator of a particular section may enter in that section;
- Time limits will be strictly adhered to. Entrants may be stopped and may be penalised if they exceed the given time.;
- In accordance with copyright law, as detailed on the website, all finalists in the concert using music must play with original score;
- A copy of the music must be provided for the adjudicator; photocopies will not be returned
- In every stage the adjudicators’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into;
- Selected finalists from STAGE 1 are required to submit a biography of no more than 80 words;
- Performers and accompanists are expected to give permission for radio broadcast;
Competition Stages
STAGE 1: preliminary auditions, at which three finalists will be selected from each instrumental section;
STAGE 2: public concert in which the nine finalists from Stage 1 will compete for the HEPHZIBAH MENUHIN MEMORIAL AWARDS.
STAGE 3: public concert in which the three winners and the winner of the Armstead Singing Award will compete for the 3MBS FM YOUNG PERFORMER AWARD
STAGE 4: public concert in which the 3MBS Young Performer of the Year will compete with finalists from other states for the FINE MUSIC AUSTRALIA YOUNG VIRTUOSO AWARD. PRIZE MONEY AND FURTHER DETAILS TO BE ANNOUNCED BY 3MBS FM

Programme Requirements:
STAGE 1: Three works, two of which represent distinctly different periods, and styles, and a third work of the candidate’s choice and styles. One should be a slow movement in order to demonstrate musical sensitivity in contrast to technical brilliance.
TIME LIMIT 20 minutes
STAGE 2: Two contrasting works from the Stage 1 programme, representing distinctly different periods and styles.
TIME LIMIT 15 minutes
STAGE 3: A programme of contrasting works which may include items performed in STAGE 1
TIME LIMIT 25 minutes (to be confirmed by 3MBS FM)
STAGE 4: A recital of the candidate’s choice
TIME LIMIT As required by Fine Music Australia
