The Official Accompanist/s will be available for Classical Vocal Sections. The Society reserves the right to appoint a substitute or assistant accompanist for any or all sections.
REHEARSALS: Competitors requiring rehearsals must make their own arrangements with the Official Accompanist. It is desirable to do so as early as possible to ensure his availability.

SPECIAL CLASSICAL VOCAL CONDITIONS
To be read in conjunction with General Conditions and Specific Music Conditions. - SONG FROM A STAGE MUSICAL: Singers are expected to portray the character; costume is encouraged but not mandatory. Competitors may sing their own selection from Musical Theatre, Musical Comedy, Stage Musical or Gilbert and Sullivan. Arias from Operas are not permitted. # Selection of song to be preferably from 1920 -1960. # This section is intended for vocalists who sing in a classical style and not a contemporary (modern style); with songs selected from a classical repertoire. # Competitors who wish to sing in a contemporary style are referred to the Contemporary Vocal section. # Vocalists may sing unaccompanied or be accompanied by piano only. No backing audio tapes or microphones are permitted. # Competitors entering any “Song from a Stage Musical” Section must provide the title of the song, details as from which Stage Musical the selected song was originally performed, together with the name of the composer. The song presented MUST be from a Stage Musical – it can only be from a film if it has also been produced as a stage musical.
- VOCAL SELECTIONS BY AUSTRALIAN COMPOSERS. An Australian Composer shall for the purpose of this Eisteddfod be deemed to be a composer who was born in Australia or resident in Australia for ten years.
- ART SONG - A song written for voice and (usually) piano accompaniment which is a setting of lyric poetry, not part of a staged work and intended for performance as part of a recital. An art song can be in a variety of languages - English, French, German, Spanish & Italian are the most numerous.
- LIED. Any selection from Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Mozart, R. Franz, Beethoven or Mendelssohn. This song must be sung in German.
- SACRED SONG or SPIRITUAL: Competitors may make their selection from sacred music or spirituals. Selections from oratorios are not permitted for this section.
- V.C.E. MUSIC PERFORMANCE AND MUSIC INVESTIGATION: (New Sections for 2019). This section is ONLY for students who are studying Units 1 - 4 V.C.E. Music Performance or V.C.E. Music Investigation in the current year.
- Useful Reference: “AMEB Current Year Manual of Syllabuses”.
- CLASSICAL VOCAL CHAMPIONSHIPS (Sections CV750,CV772, CV774). To be eligible for these sections competitors must have performed in three Classical Vocal sections in their age group. Three items are to be performed - (i) Song from a Stage Musical, (ii) Art song (this may be a repeat of a previous item), (iii)) Own choice. No special costumes should be worn in this section as competitors will sing their three items consecutively.
Amy Castles Classical Vocal Championship
Section CV774 - 23 years and under Entry Fee $20
Prizes: 1st $150 2nd $50 3rd $30
Conditions of entry:
- The championship is open to amateur vocalists
- Proof of age must be available if requested
- Competitors must compete in three (3) other Classical Vocal sections to qualify for entry into this championship.
- If, in the adjudicator's opinion, competitors do not reach the appropriate standard of performance, the Society reserves the right to withhold awards.
- The official accompanist is available to competitors for performance. The cost of any rehearsals with the accompanist must be borne by the competitor. Competitors must make their own arrangements with the official accompanist for rehearsals. Competitors may provide their own piano accompanist.
- All competitors must provide two copies of their selected works - one for the adjudicator, the other for the accompanist.
- It is the competitor's responsibility, if using the official accompanist, to send copies of the music at least two weeks prior to the Eisteddfod.
"McCRACKEN ENCOURAGEMENT AWARD.”
Most Promising Vocalist 21 years and under.
(The recipient must have competed in at least three (3) sections.)
An Award of $100 will be presented to the singer, who, in the opinion of the Adjudicator, is the Most Promising Vocalist 21 Years and under.
This Award is presented by Mrs. Valerie Broad in memory of her late parents, JOHN and IRENE McCRACKEN who were strong supporters of the Bendigo Competitions over many years.

| CV774 | AMY CASTLES CLASSICAL VOCAL CHAMPIONSHIP SOLO 19 years and over Time Limit: 20:00 |
| | Amy Castles (1880-1951),dramatic soprano, grew up in Bendigo where she was educated at St Kilian`s PS and then at St Mary`s College. Amy`s talent was discovered by Allan Bindley while she was at school. One of her first public performances was in a local production of Gilbert & Sullivan`s Patience in October 1898. The magnificent quality of her voice astonished her audiences in Australia and across the world.
Competitors must PERFORM in THREE other Classical Vocal sections at this year's Eisteddfod to qualify for entry into this Championship
Three items to be performed within a total time limit of 20 minutes:
a) Song from a Stage Musical
b) Art Song to be sung in the original language (this may be a repeat of a previous item)
c) Own choice solo
