MUSIC - RULES AND REGULATIONS

  1. Every care will be taken for competitors’ safety, but the Committee will not be responsible for any injuries sustained by any competitor and or damage to property during the Eisteddfod. 
  1. By entering the Border District Eisteddfod, you agree to abide by the rules and regulations as outlined in this 2018 Schedule.
  1. Entries will not be accepted unless accompanied by the correct entry fee. Entry fees are not refundable unless cancelled by the Committee or there is an error in the program.
  1. Requests for sections to be heard at particular times are to be either, given in writing/emailed to the committee or can be made through Stardom when processing entry. The committee will endeavour to accommodate requests however, no alterations will be made once program is complete.
  1. AGE IS DETERMINED AS AT 1ST JANUARY, 2018. (Please note this is different to previous years). The committee reserves the right to ask for proof of age.
  1. In the individual solo sections, competitors may enter only once per section.
  1.  In duo and trio sections, competitors may perform twice in these sections with different partners in any one section. In duo & trios, the eldest performer must enter the relevant age section.
  1.  School bands and orchestra competitors must be of school age, appropriate to the section with the exception of the accompanist.
  1. Movement is allowable only in the Tiny Tots Choral sections or unless otherwise stated in the music.
  1. Time limits must be observed. An item may be shorter than the limit but not exceed it. To meet time limits, excerpts of verses are acceptable and repeats may be omitted from music.
  1. All vocal solos, duets, and character songs are own choice, but must be songs suitable to the age group. Choice of song will be taken into consideration.
  1. Copies of own choice music must be received by the Committee by Friday, 18th May 2018.

  1. The Border District Eisteddfod (BDE) holds an Australian Performing Rights Association (APRA) licence that covers the public performance of all copyright musical works at this event. In 2017, a new licensing scheme was introduced to all eisteddfods. It is based on a per entry rate of 90c (ex GST), and has been included in the entry fee for performers. BDE also has an arrangement with the Australian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society (AMCOS) that allows entrants to photocopy an original piece of sheet music for adjudicators. An entrant may supply the adjudicator with an unlicensed copy of the piece provided that (a) the original is used by the entrant for performance or held at the venue for inspection and (b) the Executive Committee or its delegate destroys the copy immediately after the adjudication. A Declaration form is to be filled in and handed in with the adjudicator copy.  Forms can be downloaded from this website. Entrants must perform from original published editions of music, unless prior permission has been obtained from the copyright owner.  
  1. Competitor’s names and/or photographs may be used for promotional or marketing purposes. Should this not be appropriate, the Eisteddfod Committee MUST be notified.
  2. The adjudicator’s decision is final.
  3. Unless specifically invited by the adjudicator, contact with the adjudicator must not be made directly by teachers, competitors or parents. 
  1. Adjudicator comment sheets can be obtained from the table at the back of hall.

  1. THE DELITH JOHNSON MEMORIAL TROPHY for the most promising competitor from any Solo Music Section (18 Years & under) who has not received another Special Award.
  2. THE HELEN NEAL MEMORIAL TROPHY to encourage a Piano entrant (18 years and under) who has not received another Special Award. 
  3. THE BRENDA MATTHEWS SINGING ENCOURAGEMENT AWARD for a competitor from any Solo Singing Section (18 years and under).
  4. THE IVY MARSH and LILIAN PAULSEN MEMORIAL ENCOURAGEMENT AWARD for String Solo (18 years and under
  5. KINGFISHER TROPHY for an Australian Composition Sections 47 – 50 Piano.
  6. INSTRUMENTAL GROUP CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY – PRIMARY Highest Marks Sections: 88 – 91 & 94
  7. INSTRUMENTAL GROUP CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY – SECONDARY Highest Marks Sections: 92 & 95
  8. MOST PROMISING INSTRUMENTAL GROUP PRIMARY - TROPHY Sections 88-91 and 94.
  9. MOST PROMISING INSTRUMENTAL GROUP SECONDARY - TROPHY Sections 92 &95
  10. TINY TOTS TROPHY for Choir with highest marks in Sections 8-10.
  11. CHORAL CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY for highest mark in choral contest, Sections: 1 - 6, 11 - 13, 15 - 17.
  12.    STANTHORPE & DISTRICT CHORAL SOCIETY TROPHY for aggregate points in:

           (a) Choral Contest Sections 1-5.

            (b) Junior Hymn Sections 11-12.

            (c) Folk Singing Sections 15-16.

  1. SPECIAL AWARD FOR PIANO ACCOMPANIMENT $50 for Sections: 55 - 57
  2. THE CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHIES AND $25 AWARDS for the highest mark in each of the following sections. These awards may not be awarded if there are fewer than 10 contestants in each section.

           (a) Pianoforte - Sections 40-45.

            (b) Keyboard - Sections 64-67.

            (c) Strings - Sections 70 - 73.

            (d) Vocal - Sections 19-25.

            (e) Other Instruments - Sections 76 - 82.

 

JOAN SMITH MEMORIAL TROPHY & AWARD of $400.00 to be used for tuition fees and paid to a tutor nominated by the winner. 
Contestants from any musical category (18 years and under) are eligible. 
The contestant considered most deserving of this award is to be chosen by the adjudicator.

SECTIONS 1-10 (inclusive): To present two (2) contrasting pieces as follows:

(a)        Sections 1 and 2 must be unison OR unison with descant.  (Time limit: Total of 4 minutes for both pieces)

(b)        Section 3: One song may be either unison or in 2 parts and the other unison with optional descant.  (Time limit: Total of 5 minutes for both pieces)

(c)        Section 4: One song must be in 2 parts and the other unison with optional descant. (Time limit: Total of 5 minutes for both songs)

(d)        Section 5: Both pieces to be in two parts.  (Time limit: Total of 5 minutes for both pieces)

(e)        Sections 8 to 10: Both pieces to be in unison.  (Time limit: Total of 4 minutes for both pieces)
