2019 Rules


Overall Eisteddfod Rules

 

1.     Adjudicator’s decision will be final.

2.     Entries in all sections must be entered using STARDOM online at www.stardom.com.au or through our website www.forbeseisteddfod.com.au. Entries close on 3rd May 2019 for Music, Speech & Drama and School Dance Groups. Dance entries close 17th May 2019.

3.     Late entries will NOT be accepted.

4.     Protests accompanied by a fee of $5.00 must be lodged IN WRITING, setting out fully the circumstances of the protest, with the office or stage manager within 30 minutes of the adjudicator’s decision being announced.

5.     NO ENTRY WILL BE RECEIVED OR RECORDED unless accompanied by full entry fee. The Administration Fee is compulsory.

6.     Competitors must be ready to take their place on the platform at the time appointed and in the order set down in the programme (unless otherwise required by rule 8), failing which they will be liable to disqualification. All competitors in all sections must be ready to perform at least one section beforehand or at the discretion of the adjudicator.

7.     In all competitions, which are subject to an age limit, the age of competitors shall be taken as at the 31st DECEMBER 2019. The committee reserves the right to call upon any competitor at any time to furnish at his or her own expense, certificate of birth, or copy thereof, and can at their discretion withhold any prize moneys until such certificate or copy thereof shall be furnished.

8.     In all sections where two or more competitors are competing, the name of each competitor must be given at time of entry (choirs and groups excluded).  No changes can be made once the programme has been printed.

9.     The committee reserves the right to amend the programme at any time; including section details, session dates and session times.

10. No teacher shall be allowed on stage with competitor unless as accompanist or conductor.

11. PROMPTING, except by the adjudicator, will not be permitted in any section.

12. The committee reserves the right to arrange for adjudication by any person at any time, whether or not such person has been named or appointed as adjudicator.  THE ADJUDICATOR MAY ONLY BE APPROACHED BY OFFICIALS OF THE COMMITTEE. FAILURE TO COMPLY COULD RENDER DISQUALIFICATION.

13. The committee invests the adjudicator with the power to withhold any prize where he/she is of the opinion that sufficient merit has not been displayed.

14. NO REHEARSALS are allowed on stage during the Eisteddfod.

15. Prizes will be awarded on the following scale: 3 entries – 1st prize only; 5 entries – 2nd prize; 7 or more entries – 3rd prize, or at the discretion of the adjudicator.

16. It is essential that there be a minimum of 3 entries in all sections, otherwise sections will be combined or cancelled. The committee reserves the right to run a section with less than 3 competitors if they deem necessary.

17. In ALL own choice selections, competitors MUST provide a copy of music and words as the case may be, of the selected item. In Speech & Drama sections, the competitor must provide a copy of the selected item which, if not printed, shall be typewritten and properly punctuated, for approval. The committee accepts no responsibility for loss of, or damage to any music or paper. All photocopies for instrumental sections are to be retained by the committee and destroyed on completion. This applies to solo performers, duets/trios, groups, choirs, bands & choral groups.

18. An official accompanist is provided by the committee, but competitors may also provide their own.

19. Only music or manuscript which is legible will be accepted. Failure to comply can render disqualification.

20. The committee will provide a competent person to play all CD/iPod. CD/iPod’s must be CLEARLY MARKED WITH SECTION NUMBER AND COMPETITOR NUMBER. Any special instructions must be attached and explicit.  ALL music must be handed in before the session commences. Late music could mean disqualification. No USB’s.

21. The Committee reserves the right to refuse any entry.

22. Competitors competing in more than one age group must not repeat the same routine or item.

23. Competitors entering in Championships may repeat ONE routine or item used in age group sections.

24. NO REFUND will be made for any entry fee paid, unless section is cancelled.

25. Competitors who are eligible to compete in Restricted Sections may also enter Non-Restricted Sections. “RESTRICTED” means not having won a first prize in that particular category (e.g. Dance, Vocal, S&D etc.) at any Forbes eisteddfod or competitions at any age up until the closing date of entries.

26. Competitors entering in Championships must also enter AND COMPETE in two other solo sections of the same discipline.

27. All care has been taken in compiling the syllabus and the Committee reserves the right to rectify any errors or omissions that may appear in prize money or items.

28. THE USE OF DIGITAL DEVICES OR CAMERAS WITHIN THE HALL IS PROHIBITED. An official photographer has been employed by the Eisteddfod for purchase of all official photos and videos. The committee enforce this rule for the protection of children.

29. Solo competition is open to amateurs only.

30. In ensemble or choir sections, individuals may appear more than once in a section, providing they are bona fide members of each group.

31. School Groups do not have to be drawn from a single class unless stated.

32. Entries will not be accepted unless the Disclosure has been sighted and authorised by a person over 18 years of age (parent or teacher).

33. Groups shall consist of a minimum of (8) eight performers (except Dance groups held at High School).

34. Duo/Trios – Competitors may enter more than once in the same section, however, they must have different partners.

35. Perpetual trophies will remain with the Committee for public display.

36. Competitors are required to keep a copy of their entry form or a record of section entries.

37. Teacher Passes - 2 teachers from each Dance/Music School may be nominated prior to start of Eisteddfod. Photo ID is required to collect pass. Email name of School and Teachers to forbes.eisteddfod@hotmail.com

38. COPYRIGHT: The law of Copyright applies to the Eisteddfod. It is the responsibility of each competitor to adhere to the Act.

a.     Original music, poetry etc. must be used for performance. If out of print, or in the case of re-arranged or transposed music, a licensed stamped copy may be used.

b.     Copies of music etc. will be accepted for the adjudicator (must be marked ‘adjudicator’s copy’). In the case of the accompanist, copies may be used for easier turning but original music must also be brought on stage.

c.     All non-licensed copies will be destroyed after the performance.

d.     Pre-recorded accompaniment must comply with copyright law.

e.     If in doubt, please refer to AMCOS, Pte BOX 2135, North Sydney 2059.

 

Dance Specific Rules

 

     39. Competitors will comply with both ‘Overall Eisteddfod Rules’ and ‘Dance Specific Rules’.

     40. Spraying of shoes in the dressing rooms and the use of resin is not permitted.

     41. Prop rules (solos, duos/trios, championships) Props will be limited to ONE prop PLUS a choice of EITHER another small prop OR a hand held prop. A chair will be allowed if needed to complete a set (i.e. Table and chair together).

     42. Restricted competitors must compete in their own age class ONLY.

     43. Stockings are to be worn by all female competitors including groups.

     44. THE USE OF DIGITAL DEVICES OR CAMERAS WITHIN THE HALL IS PROHIBITED. An official photographer has been employed by the Eisteddfod for purchase of all official photos and videos. The committee enforce this rule for the protection of children.

     45. CHAMPIONSHIPS:

a.     Tap Championships:

                                                   i.     Competitors must have danced in 2 solo tap sections to qualify.

                                                 ii.     Competitors are to dance one slow and then one fast routine for the championship.

                                               iii.     Competitors entering in Tap Championships may repeat ONE routine or item used in age group sections.

b.     Jazz Championships:

                                                   i.     Competitors must have danced in 2 of the following sections: Jazz solo, Broadway Jazz Solo, Jazz Improvisation.

                                                 ii.     Competitors are to dance one jazz routine.

                                               iii.     Competitors entering in Jazz Championships may NOT repeat a routine or item used in age group sections.

c.     Modern Championships:

                                                   i.     Competitors must have danced in 2 of the following sections: Modern Expressive Solo, Contemporary Solo, Modern Improvisation.

                                                 ii.     Competitors are to dance one Modern Expressive routine for the championship.

                                               iii.     Competitors entering in Modern Championships may NOT repeat a routine or item used in age group sections.

d.     Classical Championships:

                                                   i.     Competitors must have danced in 2 of the following solo sections to qualify:  Classical Solo, Demi-Character Solo, Classical Improvisation

                                                 ii.     Competitors are to dance one Classical and one Demi-Character routine for the championship

                                               iii.     No pointe shoes in the 12yrs & under championship

                                                iv.     Competitors entering in Classical Championships may repeat ONE routine or item used in age group sections

e.     Contemporary Championships:

                                                   i.     Competitors must have danced in 2 of the following sections: Modern Expressive Solo, Contemporary Solo, Modern Improvisation.

                                                 ii.     Competitors are to dance one Contemporary routine for the championship.

                                               iii.     Competitors entering in Contemporary Championships may NOT repeat a routine or item used in age group sections.

     46. SCHOLARSHIPS:

f.      Scholarship winners are unable to enter that section again until 2 years have elapsed. 2017 winners may enter again in 2019. 2018 winners cannot enter until 2020.

g.     Scholarships consist of a 60 minute class taken by the adjudicator. 5 finalists will be chosen to perform a routine of their choice (may be a repeat) in the final.

h.     Scholarships will not run with less than 5 entrants.

i.      The Adjudicator may withhold prize money if he/she feels the standard is not suitably high.

j.      Classical Scholarship

                                                   i.     Competitors must have danced in any 3 of the following sections in their age group - Classical Solo, Modern Expressive Solo, Demi-Character Solo, Classical Improvisation, Classical Championship.

k.     Jazz Scholarship:

                                                   i.     Competitors must have danced in any 3 of the following sections in their age group - Jazz Solo, Broadway Jazz Solo, Jazz Improvisation, Contemporary, Jazz Championship.

     47. Pointè shoes will only be permitted in the 14yrs and Open age sections.

     48. Improvisations are to be danced in plain leotard and tights. Music will be supplied by the adjudicator and will be approx. 2 mins in length.

     49. Please note that the curtain will not be opened/closed for any dances other than demi-character (if requested) or group performance.

     50. Own Choreography:

a.     The aim of these sections is to encourage creativity in competitors and we ask that it is entered in this spirit and not used to promote teacher and/or parent choreography. The routine may be any style the competitor chooses and should have appropriate costuming and music. This is not an improvisation section.

     51. GROUPS:

a.     Groups must consist of a minimum of 4 persons on the day of the Eisteddfod.

b.     Competitors may dance in more than one group per section, providing each group has at least 2 different competitors per routine.

c.     TEACHERS of groups please note that the curtain may be used at the beginning of a routine, but not at the finish.

     52. TIME LIMITS:

a.     All Solo’s 3 mins with the following exceptions:

                                                   i.     6yrs & under solo’s – 2.5 mins.  

                                                 ii.     Song & Dance solo’s – 3.5 mins

                                               iii.     Duo/Trio & Groups – 5 mins

     53. Competitors are reminded that it is their sole responsibility to ensure all copyright regulations are followed and must attach their teachers copyright licence number to each individual CD. (NO CD-RW PLEASE CD-R ONLY) CD-RW’s do not play on the sound system.

     54. The committee will provide a competent person to play all music.  Each dance must be on a separate CD, or appropriately labelled iPod. All music is to be clear and audible. They must be clearly marked with name of dance school and copyright number, competitors name, section number and competitor number.  This applies to all competitors.

     55. Music is to be handed in at least 2 sections before competing.  Any specific instructions must be attached and explicit. It is the competitor’s responsibility to hand music in on time.

     56. PLEASE check your entries as no alterations will be made after the program is printed (unless the committee deems necessary).
