Entry Fees                           $25 per group (NO GST)

 

Competitor’s Ticket            $10 per competitor (Middle & Senior High School Students) - must be purchased at time of entry

                                             $5 per competitor (Primary School Students) - must be purchased at time of entry

 

Entries close - 1st April, 2017           

 

Late entries will be accepted up until 1st May, 2017 @ $30 per group, But will not be guaranteed to be printed in Program

 

NO late entries will be accepted after 1st May, 2017

A Competitor’s ticket is compulsory for all performers. Each pass must be named in permanent pen. Performers need a pass to compete and will not be allowed into the auditorium without a competitor’s pass clearly named and prominently displayed. Competitor’s Passes will NOT be available at the competition venue and MUST be pre-ordered and pre-paid. The Competitor’s Pass will entitle the performer to a BPAC showbag, entry to any of the Groups sections of the Challenge (only if seating space permits); entry to the Schools Dance Workshops and the opportunity to perform at BPAC.

 

Dance School Workshops may be attended by Schools Competitors at a cost of $20  - Please enrol by emailing details to    bpacworkshops@gmail.com

Dance Excellence Sections are for schools that have a Dance Excellence Program in place

Dance Club Sections are for schools that do not have a Dance Excellence Program in place

All Students must be fully supervised by Schools Representatives at all BPAC events to ensure the health and safety of all dancers while in attendance at BPAC.

PRIZES

In each section there will be a First, Second, Third and Highly Commended. There will also be Encouragement Awards, which may be awarded at the judge’s discretion for qualities they wish to acknowledge. Encouragement Awards are not dependent on point scores. Sponsorship for some group sections are 1st $100; 2nd $50; 3rd $25. Cash prizes will be distributed from the sponsorship money raised. Minimum amounts for cash prizes are as follows: 1st $50; 2nd $30; 3rd $20. All cash prizes will be distributed via direct deposit. Prize money to be claimed by 31st December, 2017. 


GUIDELINES

1.            Age is taken as at 1st January, 2017

 

2.            Each student may only dance twice in each section

 

3.            Music copyright payments are the responsibility of the individual schools

 

4.            Each school requires their own Public Liability Policy (Minimum $10 Million) Copy of Insurance Certificate of Currency MUST be forwarded with entry forms.

 

5.            All competitors and other persons attending the Challenge do so at their own risk.

6.            Entries will be accepted on a first come, first served basis and will be limited to the amount of performance time available

 

7.            All entries must include the name, contact phone number and email of two volunteers per studio or school per session entered or entries will not be accepted.

 

8.            No communication with the judges during the course of the event will be permitted. The adjudicators decision is final.

 

9.            Personal videotaping and flash photography are prohibited. Professional organizations are engaged to record performances.

 

10.         Entrant’s choice of recorded music should be of the highest possible quality and be recorded onto a CD, Ipad or IpodMaximum of one track per playlist.

 

11.         Time Limits will be 5 minutes for all items.

 

12.    Receipt of entries automatically entitles schools to membership of the Brisbane Performing Arts Challenge Inc. Schools may then nominate one representative to sit on the committee. This person may not be on the committee of any other eisteddfod or similar competition.



SECTION DEFINITIONS


Contemporary – Abstract or experimental. An innovative way to move the body. Broad and creative technique.

 

Lyrical Jazz – Slow Modern or Neo Classical dance.

 

Hip Hop – A modern dance style where traditional jazz technique is not the focus.

 

Jazz – May include elements of Hip Hop but must be predominantly technical jazz.

 

GLEE – From a stage or film musical and MAY include live singing, acting and choreographed movement and or dance. Must be presented in the style and context of the musical.

              Song & Dances are not acceptable. Microphones may be used.

 

Student Choreography – Routine of own choreography. Routines must incorporate good use of technique and must show good use of space and direction. Choreography must not be acrobatic or solely trick based work. Choreographer may choose to perform in the routine or use other dancers to present their choreograph.

 

Other – Anything not falling into one of the above sections definitions, this includes Song & Dance.

 

Please note – Care should be taken to ensure dancers are costumed appropriately for their age group and that choreography and music choice considers the audience in attendance at the event.

 

MICROPHONES

 

Choir mics will be used for all schools. Two hand held radio mics will also be supplied for each school to use as they choose in the GLEE section only.
